AM to cashback?
Had been looking at cashback as an alternative to AM for a little while and Percy's post peeked my interest again.
At present my credit card set up is roughly as follows:
Regular cash spend: BEA World Flyer HK$5:1AM
Paywave / Online: CCB Eye HK$3:1AM
AAVS: Citi Prestige HK$6:1AM / Avios
Travel (online only): CCB Eye HK$2.14:1AM
Restaurant: HSBC Signature HK$2.78:1AM / Avios
Supermarket / Department store: Citi Rewards HK$3:1AM / Avios
Abroad: Citi Prestige HK$4:1AM / Avios
Abroad (paywave / online): CCB Eye HK$2.14:1AM
I'm thinking about changing things up to the following:
Regular cash spend: SCB Simply Cash 1.5%
AAVS: SCB Simply Cash 1.5%
Online: CCB Eye HK$3:1AM
Travel (online only): CCB Eye HK$2.14:1AM
Restaurant: HSBC Signature HK$2.78:1AM / Avios
Supermarket / Department store: Citi Rewards HK$3:1AM / Avios
Abroad: SCB Simply Cash 2%
Abroad (online): CCB Eye HK$2.14:1AM
Basically I would be ditching my BEA World Flyer for the SCB Simply Cash card and only using CCB Eye for online spending.

Et u, theworld (as in your AM valuation >$0.075 also) (spend $100: either $1.5 rebate or 20 miles. 1.5/20 = $0.075)
I will leave Flyer World for some "dirty work", namely
- my non-insurance/education bill payments
- paying fax, mail and phone orders (note to self - CX YQ over the phone and BA redemption YQ gets charged to Citi Premiermiles/Citi Prestige)
- paying insurance over-the-counter (my PRU bill) (almost every other bill has to go to CCB VI or Prestige Diamond)

Hi everyone. Excellent information in this thread, thank you so much.
I'm not sure I've seen this issue mentioned anywhere yet, but hoping someone knowledgeable can advise me:
I got my SCB AM Mastercard back in late September, and for my first billing cycle, I accrued spending of approx. HK$19,300. HK$16,115 of that was to a UK university for a course starting in January, and the payment was made in GBP. That was one of the reasons why I got my card, to take advantage of the HK$0.5/AM offer during the first 2 months (up to HK$7.5k / 15k AM).
Imagine my surprise when I found 4,802 AM deposited to my AM account after the first billing cycle.
I don't remember reading anything about exempted spending categories for the offer. So my query is... Was it always there and I've just missed it? Or am I right to be expecting more miles?

Apparently it can take up to five months (three months after the first two months have passed) for the extra miles to post so better file your statements somewhere before they disappear from your online banking.

Thanks for your help svellmann and for the link percysmith! Good thing I do save all my statements electronically as soon as they become available.
5 months is quite a while. At least I've no need to use my AM in the near future.

A few questions on Alipay HK:
- Can I make payments to vendors using the Alipay HK app in Mainland China?
- Do transactions (via linked credit card) count as online or is the transaction type (e.g. F&B) passed through from the vendor like for Apple Pay?
- Is there a difference in transaction type between payments to vendors and peer to peer transfers?
