Just went and had a quick look, no luck sorry. The lounge was open, (and looks fantastic!) but it appeared they were just giving tours to journalists & photographers etc.
I walked towards one of the CX staff members outside with my J boarding pass, pointed to one of the several banners scattered through out the concourse directing people this way for the Cathay lounge, and slightly sheepishly asked if the lounge was open. I got a rather classically Thai response of "ahh lounge is open but not open " They were really nice about it though and escorted me to one of the other lounges.
I'd still go check it out if I were you, with a bit more perseverance (and maybe some CX status if you have it?) they might be prepared to let you slip in. I only had about 20 minutes, so the good ol' Qantas lounge is fine with me. Looking forward to trying it out next time though. Good luck!

Walked by the first time and saw a bunch of FAs taking photos, and they very nicely told me it was not opened.
Walked by a second time and tagged along with a bunch of Asian chefs and some type of manager in a suit (he's white and looks familiar) into the lounge. Showed them J boarding pass and asked if I could have a look. They very happily said yes, and accompanied me around the lounge. It does look very nice and spacious. I didn't want to push me luck to ask if I could stay in it to wait for my flight, but obviously there were no food or amenities available today (not that I would mind).
A sign is put up at the entrance saying it is opened on Tuesday. The chefs and the accompanying manager said it will be opened at 4. (The Cantonese chef said tonight ie. 4am?! Sounds like a strange time)
These are obviously Cathay staff; the second guy has a box of keys.

passing by BKK in 1 week. Does this have enough "wow" factor to warrant an early arrival to sample what's on offer? I guess it's better to eat in lounge instead of dinner on flight? I will be in Y.

The new Pier F lounge in HKG is going to be open later this month, which may be what you're confusing this with.
This does certainly look like the best J lounge in the whole of BKK for sure, TG included! (though the EK lounge might have better food, as all of their lounges usually seem to).
