In the process of writing up a trip report and this crossed my mind. I bought a ticket, Economy (H), from HKG to LAX, and booked a separate ticket from LAX to JFK. I used miles to upgrade to business. I've been checking CX website religiously to see if any availability opened up on HKG-JFK.

Just saw that some upgrade awards opened up for Aug 8 on CX840. My question:

Can I change teh award to a different destination?

I'm willing to pay the extra Asia Miles as well as any fare difference to change it from LAX to JFK if they can simply alter the underlying ticket. Is this possible, or will I have to cancel the entire thing and buy a new ticket?

Also, whom should I contact to do this (if possible, of course), Asia Miles or CX reservations? I ask becasue I find that the CX reservations people have vastly better English than the Asia Miles people. Or will it require a complicated song and dance involving all three of us?

You can' just simply change your ticket from HKG-LAX to HKG-NYC. You basically have to buy a new ticket altogether, refund the old one, or pay the fare difference if CX ticketing will allow it.

You will have to pay the difference in miles between the 2 different awards too, and you may book the HKG-JFK flight seperately. But best to ask Asiamiles what the best solution is with regards to changing the award.
