You don't have to pay $50 to get an AsiaMiles account - they are free.

(The Marco Polo Club is $50, but that's a different thing)

It appears that I have to have an Asia Miles account to use it - and that I have to pay $50 to get an Asia Miles account. Is there any workaround?

It costs $50 to get a Marco Polo account. However, Asia Miles is free and you can sign up here:

Thanks to both of you. I've now signed up for Asia Miles.

"WHAT TO EXPECT " Questions...

There are numerous questions relating to the "What to Expect" on CX forum every other day.

Rather than asking people to do a search... would regular fliers consider consolidating some recent comments on their Y, J and F experiences on short and long haul services and then we can include these in the CX FAQ thread?

Thnks

Generally you require some sort of Marco Polo elite status or oneworld elite status although anecdotal evidence has suggested that if you are on a oneworld RTW ticket in First, that may suffice. Previously if you fell into one of these categories you would be able to reserve a seat in the F section at time of booking, but it appears that CX control are now keeping F seats blocked for assigning at checkin.

You can try requesting these seats at time of booking - if you can get them, great; if you can't, try at the airport.

Part of the reason why CX will only allocate these seats to its frequent flyers is that while the food is still Business Class, the crew usually close the curtains between the cabins and there is a dedicated crew tending to the F section. In short, while it is not marketed as such, there is an element of better service in the F cabin even though it is strictly sold as J.

I was not automatically allocated to the F cabin at OLCI. I rang MPO to see what they could do and the agent said she would put in a request for the F cabin. At T-18 hours I could see from the OLCI page that I'd been automatically allocated to the F cabin. In the end, there were 2 DMs, 4 GOs and 1 SL out of the 7 pax in the F cabin. The curtain was not closed.

On the return, there were only 1 DM and 1 GO out of 6 pax in the F cabin. The crew told me that Sapporo ground staff were too generous in allocating the F cabin. The curtain was closed.

No sign of other oneworld elites both ways.

Website & Booking Shows 333

According to the FAQ, all 3 class A330's have now been converted to 33B. For CX104/5 between late October and Mid March the website shows a 333, whilst before and after these dates it shows 33B???

I had a look at the CX website which indicates that there is only 1 333 (3-Class) left.

Having more faith in this forum, would CX use this code to indicate that the flight could be operated by either a 33B or 330 on this route or is it likely that CX won't update the website until the Northern Winter schedule is released?

I'm not totally sure that B-HLW, the last 333, has been converted yet. According to SPOTTERS B-HLW went to Xiamen as CX3388 on the 18th of June, but started passenger service again on the 23rd.
To be safe I would assume that B-HLW is still flying as a 333.

Yeah...my booking and the schedules now show CX104/105 in November now being operated by the 33B. All I need now is to see CX839 change from 34D to 34B.

From SPOTTERS you will find that B-HLW is now flying again as a 33B, while B-HXD has replaced it in Xiamen for 34B conversion. HXE has not been seen since the 17th, so fingers crossed that it is also undergoing conversion.

Hopefully, at this rate, all 34Ds (+ HXI) will be 34Bs by October/November.

Is there any chance of adding links to the different sections that are listed in the contents on the FAQ thread? Scrolling down to reach somewhere near the bottom of the page for information when I know what section it's in can be quite annoying.

From 25 October CX838/9 to be operated by 34B (in lieu of EQV or 34D)

Between 18 December and 17 January CX838/9 to be operated by 74A on Tues, Fri and Sun, 34B on Wed, Thur, Sat and Mon

74A to Depart YVR 1325 Arrive HKG 1900+1
34B to Depart YVR 1350 Arrive HKG 2015+1

Two corrections for the destination thread:

1) As mentioned on the above post and reflected in the schedules, CX839/838 on the YVR run will only see the thrice weekly 74A between 18DEC09 and 17JAN10. Not the entire Winter schedule from end of October to March.
2) The full double daily 77A for the LAX route begins on 18DEC09 as oppose to 13DEC09.

On a recent flight to Tokyo from Hong Kong. I was upgraded to Business Class as two of us were part of the same booking as two business class flyers. I checked in online and within a few hours before the flight I was notified of the upgrade.

I wonder how high up in the priority list for op-up if you are traveling with a party that is flying business class.
