Upgrades for infants?
Just checked the CX website and it said that infants require miles for an upgrade as well? Infants don't require a seat so why they need the miles?? Anyone can explain?
Furthermore, anyone experience with infants in First: on the seat plan it doesnt show any baby bassinet.
Thanks

You're not buying a Y seat and upgrading the infant. You buy yourself the Y seat, upgrade yourself, and then buy the infant a J "seat." (ie 10% of the J fare, not the Y fare)

if no miles is required to "upgrade"...then everyone will just buy a Y infant ticket and no one will buy J/F infant tickets ?

The other day I was flying with my wife and our little infant on Cathay Y class and requested a complimentary upgrade to J thorugh CX sales team as we have a contarct with them and I get always upgraded.
The guy in CX sales told me that he can not arrange the upgrade due to the infant name on the same PNR. He claimed that CX has a policy of not upgrading anyone with infants becuase the infant is considered as not a revenue passenger.

again....never to be quoted here.......that's not 100% true as i've had an operational upgrade on CX and in the same booking PNR was me, my wife, my child and my infant.
although they stated that they couldnt print the J boarding pass for the infant and said that they had to issue a Y boarding pass.....they verybally confirmed at check-in that we would all be in J....and they were right !
Very Seldom though.......i guess it's luck of the draw and more importantly how Over-booked they are on the flight...

While someone here had experience to the contrary, my 11-year old was not op-upped because the check-in agent mentioned that CX could not op-up a child. My 13-year old got an op-up. I swapped my seat with my wife. She moved up front with the older one. I stayed with my 11-year old.

Upgraded!
Got the confirmation yesterday: upgraded from Biz to First roundtrip HKG-AMS-HKG for 85K miles and for the infant I have to pay around HKD3500.

You were the someone I heard from. I remember you in a thread more than a year ago. You mentioned you always got op-ups for both you and your son which was under 12. I am not sure if anyone else has the same experience.

If you are travelling on discounted (excursion) Y fares where there is no difference between adult and child fares then you don't need to tell the reseveration agent one of the passenger is a child. If that info in not in the reservation system then op-up should still be possible.

As to not telling the reservation agent that one of the passengers is a child, unless you get an upgrade when you check-in online then when you check-in at the terminal, they'll still know.
My 5 yr old has also been upgraded from Econ to Biz on a number of occasions whilst travelling with me on short and long hauls so it does happen.
