Upper or Lower Deck in 747

We are flying SFO to Hong Kong in business class. What are people's experiences with upper versus lower deck? Any preferences. Is ceiling height in upper deck really low compared to lower deck?

I'm 6'2 and I don't find the upper deck ceiling low.

On the new long haul seats, seatexpert.com is saying the upper deck seats are 6-7 inches longer than the main deck. Not sure if this is true.

I definitely prefer the upper deck if flying business class. Much quieter and better service from the FAs I think. I have never noticed any issue with cieling height, it is not like you have to duck down or anything. The only drawback is it takes a bit longer to deplane from the upper deck.

I actually wish more arielines had 1st on the upper deck of the 747, I just really like sitting up there. It is a cool sensation at takeoff to be sitting in a small cabin with the 747 roaring off the runway below you.

Upper deck all the way baby!!!!!
1 - it's more private
2 - how many other jets can you fly with stairs and an upper deck - only the A380
3 - less foot traffic means better sleeping and quieter all around
4 - 2 bathrooms easily accessible
5 - more attentive service IMHO
6 - more space ( maybe debatable ) but love those side storage spaces but the new seats don't have this

I preferred the very last row if it were new seats on the upper deck or the very first row.

If old seats I like the very last row of the most forward section just before the emergency exit door.
Enjoy CX is like no other

Ceiling height was an issue upstairs in 744/74J. I bumped my head several times before. However, it is not an issue on 74A.

I like upstairs as it is much quieter.

On the upper deck...

The ceiling height is fine in the hallway. But someone who's tall and not careful can easily smack their head on the overhead bin when getting up from the seat.

On the new Business Class aircrafts, it's still possible to see out the windows on the main deck of the 744.. if you crane your neck around a bit. However, that is impossible to do if you're on the UD.

The upper deck floor seems to be less reinforced. So when people walk past you feel it more than downstairs.

Lower deck

Old biz class - upperdeck all the way but in the new 74A's the lower deck for sure... its not claustrophobic like the upper deck is...

plus 'coz of the seat angle, it is way harder to look out the windows on the upper deck...

This is quite a problem with some crew who don't seem aware of how annoying it is for someone just getting to sleep.
