Advice-Silver status renew
My Silver will be expired on 10/31, I am short of 7000 miles. I am going back to HKG at the end of Oct. If I travel on 10/28 from NYC/HKG (8059 miles), and come back on 11/2. Will the segment (HKG/NYC) of 8059 miles count toward as my new calender year of Silver status?

That said, if that doesn't happen, you can always try to plead your case with CX and see where it gets you. They're handing out silver memberships like candy it seems to those who are signing up for this credit card and flying J (are you in F, J or Y?)

Very interesting. Can you elaborate? Officially Cathay is only giving away Green (not Silver) membership to those who sign up, and aren't already members of MPO.

If you generally fly J then Silver status has pretty much zero additional benefit...
I think people misread the OP.
The answer is: if on 31/10 your first flight hasn't hit your account then call MPC and explain the situation. They will probably be able to credit it straight away. On 1/11 your new membership year will start and the second flight will definitely credit to it.
If I've misunderstood and you if fact for some reason want to revert to Green and then credit both flights to the next year then the answer is to get your MPC number out of your reservation and then manually claim the credit once you have dropped to Green.

As christep says, the SL card is pretty much a moot point anyway if you're flying J.

I had a similar problem a few months ago (trying to keep my gold status), I did not have enough points to renew gold, but in the following month I was flying enough that I would have qualified. I rang MPC and explained my situation, they put a note on my file and told me to call them back after I had completed the flights. I did and my gold status was renewed that day. Give MPC a call and explain your situation, they maybe able to help.
