I was on CX885 (LAX-HKG) on 23 May and the flight was diverted to KIX for fuel stop, and CX LAX ground staff told me that it was due to "stronger than normal headwinds". Interestingly, UA867 by United Airlines made it non-stop from LAX to HKG. Both flights are operated with B747-400, as in the case for SQ1 and CX873.

Diversions due to weather? It's more like CX aircraft's performance have deteriorated to the extent that they can't fly non-stop from US (SFO, LAX) to HKG with normal commercial load. Instead of restricting the payload that the flight carries, CX chose to inconvenient passengers with fuel stops, and worse of all, cheated passengers by blaming it on weather.

I've feedback to CX via the online website, but so far no response at all. Seems like they don't really care about passengers anymore.

then fly on UA from LAX next time cos their airplanes are very efficient , they can even fly ORD HKG non-stop with a B744....but be hurry...cos they will cut the LAX/HKG frequency pretty soon and be axed during winter.....

for SFO/HKG....for sure it shdb't be any fuel stop problems for SQ and they might use A380 for their rounte in the near future????

Can you tell me what your point is? I'm confused. Are you promoting UA or SQ or defending for CX? Enlighten us.

What is the point you are trying to make? Care to enlighten us?
LAX, SFO & HKG are not my final destinations. There are plenty of 1-stop flghts available fron SIN to US. While it is unfortunate that my journey on LAX-HKG was delayed due to the "diversion", I wasn't upset. I'm very disappointed with CX LAX because they lied and pushed all the responsibilities away. Fuel stops are not going to push people away to fly other airlines, irresponsible and shabby staff attitudes are. CX maybe lucky that UA is going to pull out from HKG-LAX and hence no competition on that route. Well, that's bad news for LAX-bound HK residents and HKG-bound US residents. But for the rest of us, we do have many choices of 1-stop flight via TPE, NRT & ICN.
