If from HKG you don't until you check in - equipment gets substituted frequently.
If from an outport you can be confident of what the online systems tell you once the corresponding outbound flight has left.
Aircraft type 74A has the new cabins. 744 has the old cabins. 74J has the old cabins but with more J seats.

I'm new to CX. So, only the 74A has AVOD in the back of the bus? And it seems pretty much luck if your HKG-SFO-HKG flight will be operated with a 74A until the entire fleet is upgraded?
