Overhead lockers on upper deck of 74A

I've just travelled on the upper deck of the new config 747. It's been the first time I've been upstairs for some time as I always preferred to travel lower deck on the old config as I found the upper deck quite claustrophobic.

I think that CX has installed new overhead lockers which are larger. They now are big enough to take roll aboard luggage. Am I correct or did they always take roll aboards. As I mentioned its been a long time since I've been upstairs so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Actually it is not just the 744ER that has those 777 style locker (reverse style) SQ has those lockers on their 744.

I'm afraid it's not entirely true. SQ is indeed using new bucket type bins, however, they're retrofitted using 3rd party cabin furnishings. But then again so too were the original 744s using "reverse style" bins. The Boeing Signature Interior is available as standard on the 744ER or as an option on the 744 like CI's newer 744s.

Cathay's fixed position bins

The advantages of the Signature Interior is that the PSUs and bins have been repositioned so as to allow more headroom to reduce head bumping. Bins are now enlarged since they tuck into space previously occupied by the PSU. Cabin sidewall panels have an enlarged window frame area to provide greater shoulder space. I believe that it also makes the bins more accessible as their extended position is now lower than before.
