Using a CX Upgrade Cert on CX134

I am flying on CX134 with my wife in the morning. We have Y tickets, and will be trying to use our CX upgrade certificates (issued after a terrible flight HKG-JFK).

I can see on the CX site that there are tickets for sale still, but I was wondering what chance we have of actually being able to use the certificates! On our last few CX flights we have been in J with no F to use it in.

Also, I have gotten 2 different answers from the CX MEL office in regards to baggage allowance- one said we can pack for business class, and if we are unable to get seats, the extra would be free. We were also told we would have to pay for the luggage by someone else! We are OW Emerald, but I suppose that wouldn't help much with the luggage issue!

Looking forward to hearing from someone soon.

If there are seats in J available when you check in, they're yours. It's that simple. Given there are seats on sale right now it is very possible but not certain this is the case.

Regarding baggage allowance, you are very unlikely to be charged, especially as an Emerald.

Thanks for that information. I just looked on cx.com again, and it is now showing the flight as full- a couple of hours ago it was allowing me to do a dummy booking for 6 business class seats. Surely they can't have sold out the cabin in a couple of hours?! We are going to get to the airport early and try our luck- spending a little longer in the QF 1st lounge isn't terrible anyway!

If anyone can see the true loading in J for this flight I would love to know what the real picture is.

Thanks

I just called CX at MEL airport. There are 7 seats left in J.... So here's hoping that there aren't 5 sales online overnight!

The woman I spoke to said that she would leave a message with the supervisor for tomorrow morning "Because you are OWEmeralds". I don't know if that will help at all. She also mentioned we would do best getting to the C/I counter before 5:45am when it opens, so as to be the first in line for 1st class C/I.

Fingers crossed.

That may not be a real issue. That can be because the system may already be transferred to airport control.

Good luck!

Well, we got to the airport by 5:30am, and then had to wait till a little after 6am for the C/I to open.

We got the upgrades, so all is well. C/I took well over 10 minutes though.

There isn't any access to the QF 1st lounge though! It is closed until 9am....well after we are on the flight. We are using the business class lounge instead.

congrats on getting the upgrades !!

on the QF 1st lounge - interesting, I remember being in both the SYD and MEL QF 1st lounges a few times in the past few months, and if I remember right both were open well before 9 am...the spa opens at 9 am though and I remember I needed to wait in both lounges until 9 am before I can make appointment for the message...

Does QF have flights with F out of MEL before 11am? If they don't, that may be the reason the F lounge opens at 9am, but that would not explain why the J lounge was not open in your case but was open in OP's case.

The F Class QF lounge in MEL opens from 7am. I've been there in transit to AKL

I actually meant - the spa within the F lounge opens at 9 am, but the F lounge itself opens earlier, if I remember right, since I have been to SYD/MEL a few times these past few months. I am just not sure if I mixed up SYD and MEL, but I think I was there in both lounges well before 9 am. I am not sure about the J lounge at all though.

Yes, both lounges should definitely open right at 7 am. Something must have been going on.
