Does CX Still Interline with AC?
Next month we are flying YYZ-SFO-HKG-SFO-YYZ. AC755 YYZ-SFO in J; CX879 SFO-HKG in F; CX870 HKG-SFO in F; and AC756 SFO-YYZ in J.
The AC sectors and CX sectors are on separate tickets respectively. On the outbound we are transiting overnight for one night in SFO so the luggage formalities are straightforward as we'll pick them up from the YYZ-SFO sector with AC and then re-check them in again with CX for SFO-HKG the very next day since we'll need our luggages for clothing purposes at our one night hotel stay transit. However on the return, we are making a same day connection at SFO. We are wondering upon checking-in at HKG for CX870 if CX can tag our bags all the way to YYZ by showing the agent our AC e-ticket so after landing at SFO and clearing Immigration, we can take our bags to the Connecting Baggage Desk and drop them off there so when we transfer from the International Terminal to T3 we don't have to drag them with us. It has been many many years since I last did a CX-AC connection and I have no idea what their agreements are these days.

AFAIK, CX will interline with most carriers. Its usually the other way round that is usually dodgy as AC insists that your reservation must be on the same ticket before they interline. But for CX, they are a bit more flexible and should interline without any problem as long as you show them both reservations.

That's good news, because I have a similar itinerary coming up with CX and CO in March (MNL-HKG-EWR). I e-mailed CX about this, but got now answer up to now.

I had checked baggage interlined on an CX: BKK-HKG to and AC HKG-YYZ without issue, but I was on one ticket. I suppose these are all reward bookings so you could try and explain that there is no way to have it all on one ticket if someone gives you a hard time.

It was a combination of pricing factor and upgrade awards that led to two separate tickets. For the two of us, I purchased a rt YYZ-SFO economy class ticket in which I used four upgrade certificates (I am a SE member with Aeroplan and people who have top tiers with Aeroplan will know what I mean) to get the two of us into J. For CX, I purchased a separate "D" class fare SFO-HKG rt for the two of us and we both (as MPO DMs) used our Asia Miles to upgrade both sectors to F. It also turned out to be cheaper purchasing the AC and CX tickets separately.
