U availability on HKG-JFK!

I just found something I never thought I'd see and had to post about it. I just did a quick search for fun on the CX mileage redemption site and it appears that there is U availability on my upcoming HKG-JFK flight for this Wednesday!! I almost fell out of my seat when I saw that! Though I'm not redeeming b/c Y is empty and I could quite possibly get 3 seats to myself, it looks like there's a lot of good coming out of the new increased capacity.

You could use Expert Flyer, which I don't use. SeatCounter shows a ton of availability, but I know from asking Marco Polo Club when I called to arrange my seat.

There were at least 7 empty seats in J on my HKG-JFK last week (and tons in Y), and EF was showing J9 C9 D9 the whole time, so presumably there was some U inventory a few days in advance. I assume that with the additional capacity on the route, there will be more award availability, at least until the market grows into the capacity.

Although that route often sells out completely in the premium cabins.. and although CX are very frugal with premium class awards.. the flip-side is that CX are quite willing to release some unsold J/F seats into U/Z inventory within 7-10 days of departure time.
