Standby Ticket on U Class
My family member has an U Class ticket issued on CX. At the time of ticketing CX can only confirm me in U Class (based on DM status) and they spilt up the PNR (and gave her High Priority).
Just wondering can you turn up to the airport and then standby if you are on an U Class ticket. I doubt there will be that many people want to travel on that day.

When I got my father an award ticker, he has confirmed X (waitlist U) on outbound and confirmed U on return. 1X1U and roundtrip U cost the same - 100K miles - back then. It was not until 8 hours before departure when I called MPC that they were finally able to confirm U on outbound. The flight was almost full. Mt father told me there was one more empty seat downstairs.
There is always a risk, but in order to make sure she can travel, you can consider getting her confirmed X as well (don't forgot to get her seat assignment). You should waitlist all the way until boarding. If you are unlucky, and if you wish, swap the seat with her.

I called the MPO and they said you can standby with the ticket issued in U class.
They also said they will resend a request to rev control (and they did ask which of the WL flights we prefer) So hopefully something will open up.
Don't think there will be that much demand to travel on the 31 Dec. But you never know, maybe full of ID90 etc..
