744 vs 340

I am pretty flexible in my travel from SEA-HKG. I can route via YVR, SFO, or LAX. This gives me a few options on aircraft to take as well.

Any opinions on the best aircraft?
340-300 (34C or 34D) or 747-400 (744 or 74J)

I'll most likely be in Economy, however, there is always hope of an upgrade!

Which one is most likely to have AVOD/ new interiors? Which would you suggest?

Are they flying the new 747 product to the US yet?

Thanks so much!

In J class using the old business class, I prefer the Airbus and to sit in the middle, as no one will walk over you there.

I haven't done long haul in Y, but there really isn't much to choose between the aircraft, except if you can get the new Y, of which there is currently only one aircraft and it seems to be going to Europe, not North America. From mid/late-September the 77W will be flying to JFK with the new interior so that would be your best bet.

(Only the new interiors have AVOD in Y)

Personally I like the 747's. I fly economy all the time I get a bulkhead seat or one of the double rows in the far back cuz I'm a bigger guy..I find the 747's roomier than the 346 and I avoid them.. I've only flown the 777's in J on Delta from ATL-NRT but it was my impression I would prefer the 747 over the 777 y product...of course everyones tastes differ..

When are you planning to travel? If Oct 18 or beyond, you can consider taking the new daytime flight from SFO. The flight will be using the 744s and you arrive into HKG in the evening.

I'd go from YVR, AVOD be damned, simply because it is likely to be a fair bit shorter than going via SFO or LAX.

I'm going Sept 25th. I would like to get on the 744, however, I'd also like to see what YVR airport is like. I am coming from Seattle.

Thanks for the replies thus far!
