rescheduling connecting flight?

Hi there,

newbie here with question about rescheduling connecting flight. I'm going to Singapore from sfo, and if I buy a roundtrip ticket from sf to sg, can I reschedule the connecting flight going back home for about two weeks? The reason is that I would like to stay in HK for awhile before going back to sf. Any things to look out for? Will this affect my miles or impose additional fees? I will be buying the ticket from expedia. Thanks in advance

It depends entirely on the Fare Rules of the ticket you buy. Some fares allow stopovers in HK on the return, some don't. If they don't then you might be able to pay more to upgrade to a higher fare that does. Most cheap CX tickets have a fee for changing the dates on the flights, and some of the very cheap ones do not allow any changes.

But if you haven't bought the ticket yet I don't understand why you are already planning to change it - if you know what you want, why not buy a ticket for that in the first place?

I agree. Try to decide what you want to do before buying the ticket, or make sure you buy a fare that is flexible with minimal fees. I went ahead and bought a ticket with a stopover in Hong Kong on the way back from Manila. The problem was I didn't bother to check hotel prices in Hong Kong first. The result is that I'll be paying double the price for the hotel than I would have if I had booked the stopover on the way to Manila. The fees for re-issuing the ticket are too much to justify changing it now. I have a bad case of buyer's remorse now and I can't do anything about it.

Do your homework before you lock yourself into anything.
