Points upgrades in March 2007 - hound them or wait?

Hi all

Have done a bit of a search on the forums for this but haven't really come across the answer.

Two of us are flying CX to Melbourne (return) in March 2007. We have confirmed seats on Economy (paid for with 45,000 miles each) and asked to be Business waitlisted for both legs (as that would only be 60,000 each total - well worth it I say for only 15,000 miles extra each)

Last time we flew that way, we were booked on economy and managed to get a upgrade on points at the Asiamiles desk about 2 hours before the flight. We had been business waitlisted but in the end a visit to the desk before departure and after check in was the way to go.

What I wanted to know is if there is any point in me hounding the Asiamiles desk over the coming months about the Business waitlist? Do seats get released or do we just have to wait until the day to see if our waitlist request is processed?

If it's of any relevance, we will both be MPC Silver at the time of flying.

Thanks!
AT

still early to say as they tend to review flight profile and finetune redemption allotment only 3 months in advance unless fligts are wide wide open.

For your Y class award tix, have they been issued? Once they are issued which needs to be done within 30 days of confirmation, I don't think you can then trade them in for J class tix.

Regarding your previous trip, did you have a paid Y class ticket upgraded? According to the rules, you can't have an award Y class ticket upgraded using miles (the original ticket needs to be in the eligible subclass YBHKLMV)

I have had award waitlists confirmed without me hounding them so I think the best thing to do is hang tight.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Since both legs are confirmed for economy we have to confirm them soon - the MPC lady seemed to think we'd still stay on the waitlist for Biz even if ticket issued, and we would only be charged the extra 15,000 miles if they came through. Am unsure about this.

Our prev upgrades were on a paid economy at a fare that allowed a mileage upgrade.

I might hound them on occasional days for a month and see what comes of it. My boss gets his secretary to do that and seems to have about a 50-60% success rate from the sound of it.

Thanks!

I don't think that anyone "hounding" the agents are going to clear any sort of upgrades. The phone agents do not clear the waitlist, they just tell you what they see. If you "hound" them, they are just going to tell you to call back everyday to check availability. I have even went as far as asking the phone agent to send a message to inventory management or whatever department to clear an upgrade (which never cleared but got an op-up), and she said "ng duk woh". Do they do it for DM members?

Since you are a SL member, you should be calling the MP desk instead of the AM desk.

Heh - cheers for that. By hounding I did mean calling them frequently

Re calling MPC - when I type the relevant AM number into the phone it redirects me to the MarcoPolo helpdesk.
