PNR Code
I notice my CX PNR is only a 5 character alphanumeric number and doesn't work on checkmytrip. Is there anywhere where I can have a look at seat maps etc???

There used to be a way if you booked online at CX.com which generated an Amadeus PNR. You were able to see the PNR in the URL when you went to view the booking. With the new CX website this "feature" seems to have disappeared.
You can also view your booking if you are an Asia Miles / MPC member and have your number in the booking.
This was precisely this question that googled me onto FT just over a year ago. Never did find a way to do this but I found FT and have never looked back
ExpertFlyer will allow you to view seat maps for CX flights

Bummer.
Oh well, guess it'll be a nice surprise when I get on board.
I got sucked into FT when I was booking my first RTW, and discovered that people here actually knew more than 99% of TA's.

The 5 Charater PNR is the CX CUPID system PNR. It is different to the Amedeaus system BA/QF uses. HOWEVER if you ahvea QF/BA sector after the CX one, they might have an information booking on the BA/QF RELOC/PNR so check it up and see.
If u want to see the seat map u can do a dummy booking on CX.com and you can then see the seat map just before u pay for the ticket
