Waitlist processing procedures

How does CX works it's waitlist?

I flew to BKK on a morning flight last week.
When I booked two weeks ago my ticket they can only confirm the evening flight and put me on a waitlist. (at the time my fare class wasn't full on KVS) and I got called a few days before the flight telling me my request was granted.

I wonder how long will CX retains its seats before processing with the waitlist? I am bound for Toronto this Thursday and have requested a flight next Wednesday. Would it be possible that by the time I am taking the Thursday flight, my request have not even been processed?

the answer to your YYZ flight is yes, it will be that way...actually all flights to Canada are Fully booked over this Summer without any Club tier status, the chance of getting a waitlist to be cfmd is slim......

While I have no idea, I suspect as with many things at CX, it is status based. FWIW as a OW Emerald (Not MPC) I have cleared every waitlist I've been on within 3 days of booking including zeroed out flights...

Make sure your status is in the booking.

TAs who do volume bookings with CX have the ability to prioritise your waitlist to DM levels even if you're just a lowly SL. So sometimes it does help to book through a TA.

Or sometimes even if you're not a MPC member at all. The GM of a big Hong Kong travel firm with which my company does a lot of business got me two economy class seats on a very full CX flight to Rome (when availability was consistently showing zero in all fare brackets) a couple of years ago--although it took them about a week. At that stage, I hadn't even joined MPC.
