In-Flight Power?

I'm going to be flying F on the flight from LAX-HKG in a couple of weeks. I was looking at whether I need a special adapter to power my laptop. I noted that the Cathay website states that they use "Empower"-type plugs. I have no idea what that is, and I can't seem to find a picture of it anywhere.

I have an iGo Juice power cord that has a cigarette-lighter style plug that comes off and reveals a smaller plug. I got it about 4 years ago or so. Does anyone know if this is an "empower"-type plug?

The Cathay website also says that some of their planes have AC power available at the seats, but they don't say which flights have them. Does anyone know if the LAX-HKG flights have AC or DC power at the seats?

I looked at the in-flight entertainment provided by Cathay, and I have either seen all of the movies or have no interest in seeing them. So, I am planning on watching my own. It will be a mighty long flight if I don't get the power situation figured out.

Thanks for your help.

CX has a limited number of adapters for your notebook. As you'll be flying F (or J).. the ISM will be more than happy to lend you one for the duration of the flight.

Currently only F and J class seats and a very limited of seats in Y have these power points.

Yes. The smaller plug after you pull off the cigarette adapter works on Cathay. I also have iGo.

Does anyone know if the planes they use on the YYZ-HKG run have the Empower ports or the 110V ports? (I'll be in J).

Thanks.

No CX fleet has 110V ports.

I'm afraid you are mistaken on that.

The most recently delivered planes do have 110V. But I think that only means a couple of A330s and maybe a B773.

So on the YYZ route it will definitely be Empower.

The reliability of the power working in Y class is atrocious. I think all cx aircraft now have power sockets in Y, but only once out of 4 times attempted, was it working for me.

you may need to check with the crew as they forgot to turn on the power supply sometime.
