Suprise!

Im checking in at Cebu International heading to Hong Kong. This is a flight i take quite often, and usually on an A330. And to my SUPRISE... a 747-400 is sitting at my gate... This is Cebu people... So fun to see a giant 747 jet in this mini airport...

Anyways... Just some fun news...

Er, that's not how upgrades work on CX - you only get an upgrade if they are overbooked in the class you are upgrading from. (Unless you want to pay for it with money or miles)

Actually may be that's only your experience. I was upgrade sometimes on empty flights, when "space" was available, but only on minor routes like HKG-TPE or BKK or DPS.

It happens occasionally to me as well, but I think it's largely only top tier MPCs who get them, and I have never worked out the logic behind those upgrades.

777 in Cebu on 8/1/06

Flew back on 8/1/06 Cebu to HKG after a short holiday. Full flight on a 777. We were a full extended family together 7 adults + 1 infant (1Dmd, 4 gold, 1 green, 1 non member (our domestic helper) & 1 infant. flight was full, we got 7 upgrades to J & had to pay only US$11 to upgrade infant (CX does not upgrade infants).

Surprised to see a 777 as we flew out on an Airbus 330 to Cebu. Unfortunatly it was a 'regional J' not longhaul configuration.

I'm surprised you had to pay for the infant upgrade given they had already upgraded 7 of u. Not that it's the norm, but CX has op-upgraded myself, partner and infant to J twice (once to TPE and another time back to HKG from KUL).
