Transfer time frames AMEX to Asiamiles
I went ahead and got and Amex Starwood account.
How long after statement do the accounts show on Starwood's SPG.COM?
And after that, How long (in reality - as I know they say up to 30 days) it takes Starwood to transfer these to Asiamiles?
I have about 9 K asiamiles and would like to have 40K for a "C" to "F" by November 5th (when I will fly HKG-LAX) I am flying west via Asiana.
I know Cathay lets you buy up to 30% - so I need 28,000 total or 19,000 additional. I already have earned the points needed in Starwood's Amex - but I doubt I can transfer on time.
I could go ahead and buy miles from gift miles, but at $0.0325 per miles it does not make sense - as I easily earn them for free via AMEX. I have tons of points in AMEX Rewards, American, United, Delta and Diners - but all have bad conversion ratios to Asia miles.
A cousin has plenty of Starwood point but they are not allowing us to transfer 20,000 to me (Any one know of an exemption to this rule or a better suggestion?)

I called Amex to transfer miles to my Asia Miles account on Saturday. The miles credited today (wednesday), that's two working days!! They say it will take a couple of weeks, but..... that might just be Japanese efficiency

Yes. You may book the award upgrade first before you have enough miles in your account.
Regional asian transfers from Amex to Asiamiles take about less than a week. Starwood's AMex card, if USA, I have not idea how long that will take.

The OP is talking about the Starwood Amex card. These points get automatically placed into your SPG acct(at a 1:1 ratio), not Membership Rewards. From SPG, you can then transfer to Asiamiles. For Membership Rewards, you would first have to transfer your points to SPG(at a lousy 3:1 ratio), then to Asiamiles.
