Converting Miles

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Apologies if this has been discussed before, I couldnt find anything...
I have a stash of RBC Platinum Avion points and wanted to convert them to Asia Miles. I had 2 questions

1) Is there a charge for this?
2) Are the amazing reward redemption levels accurate? Are there any catches?

I am specifically looking at

Ticket/Upgrade: Round-trip Ticket
Class: Business

From
To
Airline
Toronto London / Heathrow British Airways
London / Heathrow Toronto British Airways

Asia Miles Required 60,000

This is AMAZING! Considering a YYZ-LHR eco ticket on Air Canada is 65,000. I am assuming the conversion rate from avion points is not 1:1?

Any other tips you have on reward availabilty etc etc will be appreciated as I have never dealt with CX before

Thanks

Sadiq

1) No Charges. Just call 1-800-769-2512 to make the exchange. Must transfer a minimum of 10000 RBC points. Current exchange rate is 1:1

2) Yep, the 60 000 J reward from YYZ-LHR is accurate. And yep, it is amazing.

I will leave the availability and KVS question up to the regulars, as I have yet to book an award with Asiamiles. Some of the other rewards are great too, like YVR-LHR, YVR-NRT, LHR-DAR, LHR-NBO etc. All in J, all 60 000. ^

You can check BA availability only on ba.com.

Or call Asiamiles to check.

As Asiamiles awards are mileage based... you can stretch your YYZ-LHR award to as far as Rome if you like.

I usually redeem an award YVR-LHR-CDG-CDG-LHR-YVR. For 60K miles. Or you may use the miles for one class upgrades on BA on almost any fare. However, it's World Traveller to World Traveller Plus... and WT+ to J, and J to F. You can't go from WT to J. One used to be able to... not any more..

Go to: http://www.asiamiles.com/en/redeem/flights/charts/#2

The mileage you see for each 'zone' is based on a oneway mileage. If you're travelling from YYZ-LHR-AMS return, you add the total mileage between YYZ-LHR-AMS. Then you look up the zone.

Actually, you can check BA availability on the QF website if you're a member of the QF frequent flyer program.

The Avion site says up to four weeks. For me it took just under two.

Cheers

Thanks! Do you know if CX will hold a reservation while the points are being transferred? I am looking at a few BA flights over the new year, and I'd hate to lose them while waiting for the points to arrive...

Not sure about CX, but Asia Miles sure did ^

Also - a slightly OT reminder - the last day to transfer Avion miles to AA is 31st October 2006
