Confirmation?
Hi, first off: I am new to this forum, and would like to say hi.
I booked 3 RTW tickets in Business Class for my husband and son, and upgraded our Hong Kong - Vancouver flight to First Class using my miles.
Because of my status with Marco Polo, my seat is confirmed, but my husband and son's are not. We are travelling in about 7 days, and I would like to be reassured that their seats will be confirmed soon, because it's my son's birthday and I want him to be able to enjoy himself with the both of us.
Thanks!

Hi there,
Which flight are you booked on CX888 or CX 838?
If on the CX888 your chance is less as there are only 8 F class seats in total.
I think one of your travelling companion can be confirmed on the day of travel but I think 2 is streching it a bit much.
Are you MPO gold or Diamond?
My travel Companion got confirmed on the day of departure in Z Class and I got confirmed 3 weeks before departure. I was told pretty much it is mostly fully book most of the time.
Also given it is around Chinese NY it might be a bit hard.

welcome hairpeace!
please call up MPO and explain the situation. be sure to leave them your mobile phone #s.
and ask them to put such note into your hubby/son's reservation
(in future, you should perhaps book the travel under the same PNR -- i.e. reservation record)
WL usually clear between the 24-72 hour window. So be patient, there is a good chance that they will call up your cell phone and let you know then. the chance should be pretty good for you if: when you check the seat map there are many unassigned seats (see link below -- but it the flight is sold out it may not let you see the seat map, in that case, you can ask MPO agent her how many unassigned seats are there, they are happy to tell you these kinds of info)
that is, if there is a seat, they would get it.
CX agent will typically call up every single pax with a reservation in the 48-72 hr window to reconfirm.
you could also call them about 2 days before the flight (if WL hasnt cleared yet) to check.
in several occasions I was told the WL was cleared some 1-2 days before the flight. i was CX Diamond on A class ticket
-----
in fact, since it is the CNY. the seat werent released mainly for the overbooking of the coach cabin.
so i would suggest you tell MPO to swap your upgraded sweat with your husband, WL your son's. and DON't upgrade your own. because 90% of the cases you will be op up'ed because the flight will be very full -- Y pas upgraded to J, and J pax will be upgraded to F (and you are #1 or #2 in that upgrade list)
(if not, you still have the chance to upgrade with mile in the airport)
---
if you let us know your date/flt #, we can look up the reservation for you and check the chance for WL and op-up for you.
you can also do it yourself at this link
http://flyaow.com/classcathay.htm
or
https://www.itn.net/cgi/air?stamp=63...12+pm&x=47&y=6
if it returned "flight is sold out" that mean op upgrade is very likely for you.

Departs
Hong Kong (HKG)
January 31
4:55 pm Arrives
Vancouver (YVR)
January 31
12:10 pm Notes
Cabin class: F1 A1 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y7 B7 H7 K1 M0 L0 V0 S0
Meal: Dinner
Distance: 6382 mi
Stops: non-stop
Flight Time: 11:15
Boeing 747-400Boeing 747-400
It shows there is 1 free seat on F (subclass F and A), >9 in business (C/D/I), 7 in econ (Y and below)
this means that 1 F seat for sales, but they would hold it for a few more days (probably till 28th) to release for mileage upgrade. note it is very likely the 2-3 of the F reservation will not turn up or change the reservation in between
also, as i look at the seat map now, only 3G is taken. so this means more upgrade sear is likely to be released -- because it is more likely for a pax who is definitely going to have selected a seat. in this case only 1 out of the 9 reservations actually selected the seat
http://www.itn.net/cgi/get?jet/seatm...n/air/cathayus
so very likely you will get your mileage upgrade clear.
from what it looks now (might change in last minute though) the operational upgrade (i.e. courtesy upgrade due to overbooking) is less likely because Y and J are pretty empty.
in any case, call MPO and let them know. and if they can, switch your confirmed upgrade with your hubby or son and put yourself into WL. (not sure they could do this though)
hope this helps

At other times, I was waiting for "U" class, just like your "Z" class. It NEVER cleared, despite the flight showing J6C6D3I0 etc... Okay, it was HKG-SYD flight 100 (depart 2345) and the time is same day at 1800. Look, you can even check-in for that flight. So I called MPO again and insisted the flight be cleared. The lady informed that "all of a sudden there are many seats available"
I packed up my bags and head straight to airport.Surprisingly, when i did online-checkin at 1800, there were MANY unassigned seats (say 40%), so I had pleasure of choosing my favoriate seat. Onboard, ALL seats are filled, and Y is NOT overbooked. It made me really wonder where alll these extra pax came from, and I'm guessing they are all staff travel or similar.
To cut the long story short, you shouldn't give up, and DO call. Do NOT simply wait for call from MPO cuz it won't come. Good luck.
