CX Comp Upgrades?

I've just been searching through the AC forum and came across "comp u/gs"... I've never experienced CX doing this, has anyone? I'd love to find out logging onto my MPC account 2 days before departure that under my "status" coloum its been replaced by business over economy... saves the anxiety while travelling to the aiport check in (or even the gate for that matter ...

Search, search and search. This has been discussed many many times. Try the word "upgrades or op-up". Op-up's are based on your MPC status, route, class of travel, and if the flight has been oversold. CX will not op-up you just for the heck of it.

And you'll NEVER find if you get op-up'd 2 days before flight. Chances are it will be on the day of departure ... and most likely at the gate just prior to boarding.

But boy is it a nice surprise when it happens. My one experience with an op-upgrade on Cathay was on my last flight back - totally fully coach, paid seat (in H, for the AA miles), AA plt ... had been pretty full when I bought the ticket, and had a crappy middle seat at the back of coach.

Checked in very early in the hope of getting an aisle off of a cancellation, and found out I'd been upgraded.

OK, not nearly as exotic as the discussion of upgrades to F from paid J, but that upgrade pretty much made my trip...

Yes complimentary upgrade exist

The flight Not full.

My brother just flew HKG-KIX. Got upgraded because they said "It's the first flight of the 5th year of your membership".

I remember someone (possibly chiangi ) reporting in other thread that every 5th, 10th year of membership gets complimentary upgrade. I did a search but the function was down.

So take it to your advantage... make sure you have a longhaul on the FIRST flight of your 5th year of membership...

I've gotta start my creative trip planning for next year now... (my 5th year!)
