Thanks for the tip about CX ex-FRA, but CX doesn't seem to have anything to match BA's current offer for LIS-HKG in F which is less than 3000 ! Are the CX F fares ex-FRA the best I can get in Europe ?

gambler, B Watson,
I am beside myself. It didn't even occur to me I could be wrong, but appearantly there is some other factor in play. My experience is based on buying J tickets, online, a day or two before. I do that for TPE-HKG and TPE-NRT and sometimes TPE-HKG-SIN. And with the full fare J I always ended up in F.
Now that you both put this experience into question, let me venture a guess: the HKG-SIN route I only had once with F cabin, mostly it's aircraft without F. If we take that and KUL away, that leaves us with TPE and NRT flights. Maybe it has something to do with that?? Also. when I was still MPC Gold and bought J e-tickets online, I always got a First class lounge invitation, never Business class lounge.
All of my experience is based on J tickets bought ex TPE online, and not limited to my person -- actually I learned about it from a business acquaintence who flies TPE-HKG-FRA rtn a lot, also web-purchased J, is based in TPE. We met at the airport lounge and he told me they always upgrade him TPE-HKG, but only occasionally on the HKG-FRA segment. That's how I learned about the powers of the J e-ticket.
Maybe it's the online buying then, not the "J"? Frankly I'm a bit baffled.
