Do you have OW status ? CX is pretty good for OP UG's if economy is oversold and there are status people on board.

You must also consider business J. Currently, the stats show:
F4 A4 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 NC Q0 OC
In this case, inter alia, you should be looking at good chances (thats if these figures remain more or less the same - in which they HARDLY do). This is true (for these figures only) because J seems to be pretty open giving a chance for OP U/G... quite often, J rev. and F revn is already full leaving it impossible to U/G a lot from Y. But for now, keep checking the stats of ur flight. Best of luck! Post me a note on how things go.

What does the availability tool say for Aug30? There are 3 of us on CX881 in Y. I'm OW Emerald (AA EXP) and the other 2 OW Ruby (AA Gold). Getting an upgrade for myself will be pretty hard since 1) I can't upgrade using miles or eVIP and 2) CX MCP have priority. So, getting upgrades for the three of us will be pretty much impossible. But heck, I'll cross my fingers.
This is the first time I fly CX on a trans-pacific route (I've flown TPE-HKG before) and don't know what to expect really. I know I'll have a PTV, better food and service. Do we also get amenities, extra goodies and the infamous midnight MSG-loaded Cup-o-Noodles?

In that case, why does everyone keep thinking that AA status stands much of a chance for the OP UG??

I am really interested to know, as I think it shouldn't be!
IMO even a GREEN CARD member should be considred before anyother OW Emerald! (this is sometimes the case on AA, QF and BA)
