Angry Blackout dates arrive on CX redemption

Look at this:
http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,83093__eng__1,00.html
CX now has published blackout dates on redemption tickets, which basically now mean it now NEVER possible to get a roundtrip redemption award between HK and Europe (yes, Europe - anywhere!).

Unless I have misunderstood this table this is completely outrageous!

I have different opinion.

i think it's a table summarizing what's STILL AVAILABLE at the moment.

So, for example, all redemption travels from Europe to HKG between August till December is gone.

I don't think it's blackout dates.

I agree with fakecd.

Just booked yesterday an CX F award LHR-HKG-LHR for this coming week (18AUG - 22AUG) for myself. Quite a lot of availability. Used AA miles.

Cheers,
Mads

yeah for some reason, the MPC called me last week and said my WL from LHR-HKG has being confirmed (for 2 people) for late October.
But i guess there will be another 2 more F Class seat available as I have changed my travel plans to the DONE4 for later in the year?
Anyone interested in 2 Z Class from LHR-HKG in October?

Mentioned this to MPC when I was talking to them about some other stuff. It isn't formal blackout dates, but it is an attempt at "focussing" people on redeeming certain routes. The table refers to Economy class redemption.

I still can't get an F companion reservation HKG-LHR-HKG at any reasonable dates around Xmas / New Year.

AA has the same type of table on their website now. They are really concerned with mileage burn. Basically, the balances at AA are getting too high and people in AAmerica get fed up when they can't get 5 tickets the Friday before Christmas to Hawaii. Strange though as CX wouldn't have a burn problem since mileage that isn't used after two years expires.

The cool thing with AA's table is that it only shows the top 20 routes in their system but lists them by day from now to January.

I had a bit of a row with CX last year about this issue in J -- travelling HKG LHR Dec19 rtn Jan 03. To cut a (very) long story short, they told me that certain dates before and after the holidays are blocked until (around ??) November 15. I purchased my ticket in October and come Nov 15, tadaaa!, inventory opened up and a got a companion award. Good luck christep.

On another note: its funny how airlines always insist redemption tickets are like cash-paid tickets for them, and at the same time they are so bloody tightfisted with inventories.

My balance keeps accumulating solely because Asian and OZ J tickets are too cheap to use miles and US/EU longhaul is never available when I need it. I am starting to redeem hotel vouchers instead.
