Impressive place. The Cabanas are very cool. Now I'm off to check out The Pier.

Only have an hour, so gotta hurry. I'm taking the moring flight HKG-TPE-NRT, so the Noodle Bar isn't open until 11AM.

My only disappointment vis-a-vis BA's Concorde Room is:

1. Significantly lower quality wine/champagne/spirits, below standard served on the aircraft (With the exception of XO Cognac, but no Chivas Royal Salute and Champagne is Moet, etc.); and

2. No Spa/Massages.

The Pier features the Day Break rooms, which I think are a major breakthrough in airline lounge accoutrements, if you have a couple of hours or more to kill. The ability to park yourself and stretch out and even nap, which watching films or listening to music is great.

I understand the food offerings in The Haven Restaurant are pretty nice too, albeit breakfast doesn't do it justice.

Well, off to a couple of nice flights en-route to Tokyo!

I look forward to your observations as I will be doing SFO to BKK in CX J and am looking forward to the two hour layover so that I can also finally check out The Pier and/or Wing. . . . .

In December I should be able to check out any parts that I missed as I was able to snag HKG to YVR in F........ ^

Why would you book only a one hour connection in HK if you have wing access (especially the F side)?

It wasn't a connection, but a 10AM departure, and the reason I only had an hour for the lounges is because I wanted to sleep...as it was I got up at 7AM and took a 7:45 car from Hong Kong to the airport.

I'm curious as to what you might want for breakfast that The Haven doesn't offer? You are aware that you can order a la carte if you wish? (Not that there is actually a carte, but they will do things like a traditional English cooked breakfast plate (eggs, bacon, sausage, etc) on request.)

Were you in the F or J lounge?

Wing/Pier F Lounges are definitely ''Four Seasons" of all lounges. If there were a start system for airline lounges, Wing/Pier F would definitely be *****. Granted Concorde room might have better quality champagne, wine or liquor, Wing/Pier excel in ambience, service and layout.

I've been flying a lot lately to Seoul (you have all probably been reading about it in the papers, in the business section, but I'm not telling where!), and the flights, not being "premium", leave out of the far CX gates (60-70). The Pier Daybreak rooms are so amazing have been making it a habit of going early to the airport (!!!), parking myself in a Daybreak room for a couple of hours, putting on some music, firing up the laptop (with the free wireless access) and actually getting two hours of uninterrupted work done, more than I get in my office or outside in the lounge.

I've gotta agree. The Pier/Wing are one of my favourite places in the airline world. The architecture, service, amenities, food, drink, and service are all amazing. I like transiting through HKG - arriving in the morning, going to The Wing to refresh, taking the Airport Express into HK for some shopping and eating, and doing The Pier before my onward flight.

Do you prefer the Wing or the Pier? Why? I have never had the chance to be in the first class section of either lounge, but will be able to try one out this summer.

The Pier. Less crowded, more workstations and workspaces, more intimate with the low roof. Quieter because there is no echo from the Foster roof. The Cabanas are nicer, but the Dayrooms are always available.

Of course, if my flight is out of gate 4, I wouldn't head out all the way to gate 63 just to be in the Pier unless I had enough time to enjoy it. Otherwise, The Wing is plenty fine. However, any departure out of any of the 30+ gates involves a visit to the Pier.

The Haven is fine for breakfast. I just appreciate and enjoy the other meals more than breakfast.

The Wing/Pier is the nicest, most beautiful, most scenic, most relaxing combination of airline lounges in the world (at least that I have encountered). The daybreak rooms are amazing...just a very cool place to hang out.

I do think the fact that the Concorde Room serves premium drinks and offers a nice massage at the Molton Brown Spa makes the BA LHR experience superior in some respects; so it depends what you want: if you want to chill out and eat well, the Wing/Pier combo is better; if you want to drink and have a nice massage and save the eating for your longhaul first class flight, the Concorde Room is better.

Both stand out in the lounge universe. ^

The other thing I like about The Wing is how you can take in the wonderful architecture of the airport and the views out on the tarmac (if you want quiet, you can always go downstairs or into a cabana, or The Pier). HKG is one of the most stunning airports in the world IMO.

The Concorde Room has been going downhill in the past 3 months. The cellar is starting to run out so sometimes the wine is from the F list instead of their better stuff (from this I infer that they aren't restocking the cellar and it will run out for good soon, putting an end to the interesting and sometimes astonishingly good selections). Overall the Wing/Pier is better ... the Pier had a spa when it first opened, but the spa closed for lack of business (run by Elemis and charged a fee).

Oh, and what gate does HKG-JNB (11.40+ flight) depart from?
