Elite loading on flights

How elite is HKG LAX return in terms of loading.

trying to see how much I would luck out with a W to J op up on 884 and 885. TIA

How long is a piece of string... you may get more luck by giving a specific date so that those of us with an ExpertFlyer account can give you the particular loading to take a view.

My view, as an occasional passenger on this route, and a regular passenger on CX longhauls is: Very elite heavy, so unless you are a CX Diamond (maybe CX Gold) your chances of an upgrade aren't that high as the flights often sell out to J0 (i.e. full business class) days before the actual flight, so then you rely on last minute cancellations or changes to create you any space for an opup.

Thanks and helpful replies.

Here are the flights I am on

6/6/26 CX884
J9 C7 D3 P0 I0 W9 R9 E7 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9S9 N9 Q9 O9

6/13/26 CX 885
J9 C9 D9 P9 I4 W9 R7 E0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

As a lowly Gold riding out in W, i think I am resigned to being stuck in my 35H both ways.

As a Gold I never got upgraded once on any route I took for the whole year. Around 30 sectors. So now Im Silver and not going to prioritise Cathay. Seemed to be a lot of Diamonds and many of those werent upgraded.

I got long haul Y to W upgraded when I first made SL in 2016. Since then had never had successful long haul upgrades. Said Y to W was told to me as remarked against my booking as courtesy upgrade to experience higher cabin product. Guess like you say, with so many DMs (especially the 840 pointer ones), it will be harder to get an op up.

Never had an opup since becoming GO. I had quite a few when I was still SL.

As a GO, I get op-ups quite frequently, about 8~10 times per year. But very route-specific, mostly between Taiwan and HKG or between TPE and Japan. I have never received any op-ups on long-distance flights.

Those routes are very premium light and YCL often oversold while JCL is empty.
