Flyertalk inaccessible from HK?

Seems like Flyertalk has become inaccessible from HK starting today (30/3). Doesn't matter if you are using WiFi or data. The only way to reach it is by VPN.

Hopefully it's a temporary issue?

Maybe they accidently adding HK into this rule along with mainland?

And what does this have to do with CX?

You do know there's a Technical Support and Feedback section, and this has been widely reported already right?

I feel like the tone of your post is somewhat influenced by fact that we didn't see eye-to-eye in the other thread.

Anyway, I appreciate you shedding some light on the situation through these links.

For those of us who cannot access FT anymore, neither can we access the technical section, so your snarky comment is a bit out of line.
I had to try several countries on my VPN which also blocked access, until I finally could get access once through an Australian IP.
And FT members in Hong Kong are primarily concerned by CX forum. Hence, yes it is the likely place to ask if others people in this forum had the same problem.

FWIW same error msg using Canadian VPN

Ditto

Can access FT only via CX's in flight WiFi, but not when actually in the city

QRC3288 Mar 30, 2026 8:42 am

Ditto. VPN only in city.

This forum is going to lose a lot of activity sadly, unless this is a mistake.

Amateurish…

Yes now only accessible with VPN. I think this happened temporarily a few years ago. I reported it to the webmaster. At least it means I don’t check the thread posts as much as I can’t be bothered to keep turning on VPN (eats my battery) and I’m less exposed to threads such as the one about missed connections and alleged CX backroom conspiracies that is still very active.

Ditto. I could only access the help and support by using VPN. Site completely blocked.

With PureVPN, many countries are also blocked. For me Australia currently works.

This is the email I received from FT support by [email protected]
"Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately we have had to temporarily raise our network security, due to an ongoing web traffic surge, possibly caused by bots."

If many members from HK contact him, FT will work harder on this.

Possible that we slammed down hard on Hong Kong because of a bot attack over the weekend. We're still monitoring the situation.

Just went to Shenzhen for the day. Ironically Flyertalk still seems to be accessible here, even though it’s now blocked in Hong Kong
