Not surprised. We convinced ourselves why CX shouldn’t do it

Yeah, this is tough on old hands and advantages someone say in their 30-40s who may end up with quite a few years of reserve DM membership by the time they retire.

Conkers Oct 21, 2025 10:33 am

Indeed a little tough on long standing DM members but better than nothing!

it seems as though the reserve memberships can only be triggered at the start of 2027 based on the mail I received so if you don’t re-qualify at DM by the end of your current membership year (June 26 for me) you will potentially have 6 months at a lower tier.

Is my understanding correct please? I did read a suggestion that for those memberships expiring mid 2026 the status would be renewed until the start of 2027 even if the requisite number of points hadn’t been accrued but having re-read looks like you would be downgraded.

This was a rather unwelcome surprise. I thought CX would have learned from BA, that it is not popular to change the tier qualification rules for tickets which already been sold.
I will retro claim in January for one of my flights in November. If it does not count for the 2026 qualification period, the rest of the November and December OW flights will credited to another OW frequent flyer programme.

My membership years ends on 30 Nov 2025, and I have designed a trip either side to re-qualify for Silver and put the return leg into the next year. It seems those 75 SP will go waste unless I pull to FF number. But on my ticket I have an attached companion redemption - can I still pull the FF number to retro claim?
(I think many have said?) CX should have allowed SPs earned for flights booked pre-announcement and flying post-announcement to count for 2026 transitional qualfication.

For the trip after 30/11/2025, I think you should delete your CX FF number for the second leg. I have done similar exercises with BA: For the same booking; One leg credited BA, another leg credited CX (due to BApocaylypse 10 months ago). It worked as planned. Got BA Silver, my TP with CX and finally Silver with CX. (Farewell BA.)

The effect of your companion redemption, I cannot judge. I recommend you to give it a try though.

I have trips with OW Nov - Dec 2025. I will retro claim the TP for one flight in January. If CX do not honour their sales conditions I will most likely transfer the other flights to AY. What BA did is totally unacceptable. If CX do the same I will for future flights
* Swap credits to AY, or more likely
* Choose another alliance.

Yes. Managed to remove my Cathay FF in the cathay lounge and retro claimed in 2024 for a paid J ticket with a linked companion award. Can also try cs chat, i managed to remove my FF a few months ago for other flights

From CX WhatsApp:

Thank you for sharing your concerns, X. Regarding your concerns about “claim missing miles” in 2026.

For example, if you travel in 2025 and complete a “Missing mileage request” form online starting from 1 January 2026, you will receive the Status Points and Asia Miles in your account if your claim is successful. These Status Points will be considered as Status Points earned in 2026. Kindly make sure you claim the missing miles after seven days but within six months of the travel date.

Meanwhile, starting in 2027, Status Points crediting will be based on flight date. If missing miles claimed in 2027 for flights flown in 2026, the system will automatically credit Asia Miles only, but NOT Status Points. Thank you for your understanding.

———-

I thought you had 1 month to credit status points (rather than 6 months) in 2027 (and only credited on the flight date, not claim date). Seems the information above is incorrect? At least we can still retro credit all our flights for the next few months.

Diamond reserve

Hello question diamond reserve,

if I qualify on the 5 years of DM since 2016 but short on the 6000 status points. Circa 700 points to qualify for complimentary year of diamond in 2027.

Is the status points requalification period of the from Jan- Dec 2026 for the 700 status points? Does not include any flights from now till end of year like the regular changes or is diamond reserve different ?

best

I understand it is different and you will accrue toward your 700 short miles with travel in 2025 and into next year and be entitled to the complimentary year membership from whenever you reach 6000 SPs.

No one able to help please? Will I have a potential 6 month gap in DM status before I can trigger DM Reserve on 1/1/27?

Why don't DMs read through the official guidelines and examples themselves? It's pretty self explanatory to most questions in this thread.

Conkers Oct 26, 2025 7:45 pm

I did. I was just asking politely for a confirmation I have interpreted the guidance correctly.

QRC3288 Oct 26, 2025 9:02 pm

I was just going through the DM / DM Executive differences, and I'm not sure if this was mentioned here:
*DMs are losing the guaranteed biz seat benefit (Y and PEY only). DM Executives will be the only ones with guaranteed J.

(As already mentioned above, DMs are also losing the buggy, whereas DM Executives are getting the buggies and a +1).

Courtesy channel remains same.

First world problems from where I'm sitting as non-top tier Asia Miles member.
