YMMV, but for me, Rollover is a godsend.

At a quick glance:

1. Easier progression to Gold/Diamond without status point reset, and allowing rollover to next year.
2. Diamond members lose some benefits, eg. Guaranteed J seat, bookable upgrades (only to J), buggy service.
3. Companion gold membership requires 2400 SP rather than 1800 now.

Overall I think it is easier to progress and maintain a membership, but original top tier DM) lose out some benefit.

Main ‘changes’ for DMs now:
- J class seat guarantee (DE only in the future)
- 4 BKUGs / complimentary gold card (at 1600/1800 before) moved to DE, replaced by two non-F BKUGs
- removal of buggy benefit (DE only in the future)

I’m all for Cathay Pacific rewarding their top flyers, but calling the new tier “Diamond Exec” is just… confusing.
Could they not have come up with another name?

How much do I have to spend to get Diamond Plus?

Underwhelmed to now have to get to 2400 for J to F upgrades. What a shag. On the bright side, not much point to go above 1200, for me.

They're probably trying to not make the normal 1200 DMs feel underappreciated or diluted (though this kinda does make it look pretty average)

Ask AA and QF too.
AA - Platinum, Platinum Pro
QF - Platinum, Platinum One

At 2400, I think they have set the threshold for Diamond Exec a little too high relative to benefits.

For comparison/reference, have a look at Qantas Platinum One it requires 3,600 status points in one membership year to achieve, with at least 2,700 on earned on flights with a QF number within a membership year to maintain/renew in subsequent years. Clearly the new Diamond Exec is not aimed at everyone unless you practically live in the clouds/skies.

It is a middle finger to those who flying 1200-1800 SP.

I think people with 1800-2400SP lose out the most, as all the mid-tier benefits are gone, as it wil belong to Diamond executive.

At the same time, I would assume these group of passengers will likely get one year Diamond Ex, then diamond alternatively from the rollover scheme.

LOL at their cut-rate “lifetime” benefit for long-term Diamonds.. This means they thought about it and recognise the competitive imperative but are too cheap to actually offer what the market demands / what competitors offer.

If you’ve held any Diamond status for five years or more, you’re now eligible for Diamond membership reserve^. You’ll receive one complimentary Diamond membership up to one year for every 6,000 Status Points you’ve earned since 2016, when Status Points were first introduced.

Otherwise, this is mostly a yawn and probably more of a negative on the whole. Easier status upgrades = attempting to lure people into higher ranks. Introducing DME (or whatever it’ll be shortened to) could be an big negative for DMs if the soft perks and “special” treatment of DMs gets channelled only to DMEs.

Rollovers are nice.

Final edit: CX either need to fire their comms agency or fire their internal comms leads. It makes no sense that status points earning was a separate announcement, and they lost the opportunity to make Golds feel special with this announcement by splitting off the announcement of free WiFi for GO members…
