Upgrade Availability Checker
An email from CX last week, about bookable upgrades had a link for an upgrade availability checker.
Any experiences? Presumably it only shows availability for the PoS/PoO of the origin point of the segment chosen - looking at a couple of flights where expertflyer availability & the upgrade checker suggest opposite results..the checker also always seems to have a 'Last update: 12:01 (Hong Kong Time)' message (without a date mentioned).

Naturally, since we're the only ppl that it'd be useful for
Perhaps that does make a difference - any other datapoints from our fellow FTers?

What is the "real purpose" of this checker may I ask? It was my first time using the it and didn't have a very good experience. Next time I will just stick to Whatsapp for upgrade confirmation.
I was trying to use miles to upgrade a redemption group member from Y to Y+ in December. When I searched the flight in the tracker, it showed the brown single seat icon, so I thought okay, great. I then contacted CS via WhatsApp, but the agent told me no confirmed upgrade seat was available and that they could only add me to the waitlist. I showed the screenshot of the brown single-seat icon, and this is the reply:
"I totally understand there might be some confusion. Just to clarify, the indicator shows that the chances of getting an upgrade are currently low, which means there's still a possibility that seats may not be guaranteed. I was able to put her flight on the waitlist and you may monitor her email address or your account if the upgrade has been confirmed."
While I understand it was my fault for not reading the icons legend properly (higher/lower chance for availability), generally people interpret seat icons as actual availability when searching for redemption / upgrade. Green double seat icon = 2+ available, brown single seat = last one left, and waitlist icon = waitlist.
30 mins after the the agent put my redemption group member on waitlist, the brown single seat icon was changed to waitlist icon.
