Is the trial still going on or have they rolled this out?

YVR-HKG CX 837 they’re doing the “new” group boarding now…

I think this is now rolled out more or less globally. I can't speak to all ports but the wiki is out of date and ports like LHR/BOM/BKK which are listed as no or unknown status are now all using group boarding.

I believe that HKG is now also using this across all gates/destinations.

Just got a Group 6 boarding pass on the 438-seater 777... gulp...
What's the likelihood of finding bin space or any chance/risk of being forced to gate-check one's hand baggage like the airlines in US or EU?

Depends on the route :D

On most routes you'll get space somewhere or the other, but may not be directly above you.

just came across a discussion post on lihkg (a hk local online forum) about a passenger in the front section, i.e. the last group to board, was not happy that her carry-on suitcase couldn't be placed above her, while people around her were mostly members with priority boarding and the ability to choose the seats in the front section of the cabin before check in opens

I'll see how bad the situation would be, flying to BKK on Friday afternoon so not sure the overall loading. CX group boarding mechanism (i.e. board by row) lacks the randomization of rows at boarding which I feel may cause more issues, but somehow board by row has long been CX's usual practice at some outposts...

Reads like BA https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...l#post34777257

(Honestly I don't get the enthusiasm by my countrymen for A321XLR https://www.australianfrequentflyer....conomy-review/ . Probably, only on a 737-800 vs A321XLR basis only.)

At bus gates, not just @HKG, G1 means you board the bus first. Alighting the bus is a free for all.

Agree with this. Experienced this at XMN.

A bit surprised G1 (emeralds) and G2 (J) pax didn't get their own bus....

The whole G12+4 onto first bus felt very....BA...

If CX apes BA rather than Qantas, I can’t board family members with me. Holy cow, I’m front enough for my mother to be Group 7 if sitting next to me - she’s not unstable enough on her feet to be reduced mobility just yet.

Stupid me for breaking each family member into their own booking to enjoy HSBC300 repeatedly.

My mother (no status) got CX Group 1 when travelling in me even on separate booking - I don’t think this is a 75yo thing so it must be from the TCP info I entered?

Clarification: at OLCI. I was expecting to have to go to desk to get Group 1 for mother, if at all.

Cathay also allows linked bookings to have the same boarding group. If you and your mother were checking in together, chances are the check-in agent linked your bookings together and would therefore get the same boarding group.

Came back to Hong Kong from Shanghai Pudong tonight on CX 369. Half-full flight. Group Boarding was two lines only...Groups 1/2/3 and Groups 4/5/6/7.
