Given the BAEC being ridiculous in attaining a status, I believe agents at CX lounge would be quite familiar with the change of FFP. I do wonder if anyone has done it in other CX lounges (eg. HND, LHR)?

(Not sure if it’s an appropriate place to ask) I wonder how difficult it is for status match for CX? I don’t intend to match the exact status (currently BAEC OWS, but travelled mostly on CX last year), but CX silver status will help saving a lot of fuss when travelling alone, and easier to achieve CX gold without having tier point reset.

They don’t do case by case matches.

I am wondering if I need to have my sapphire FFN on my boarding pass to access Cathay lounges, or if I can just show a different FF card for access. For example, AA Flagship lounges allow me to have one FFN on the reservation, and to show a different FF card, but Alaska requires the Sapphire FFN to be on the reservation. Thank you!

I believe you can just show it

I mean matching BA Gold with CX Diamond. I don't think they do that openly.

I don't think most airlines match the equivalent tier as other airlines. But given CX resets your tier points once you progress to a higher tier, starting from a tier other than green saves a lot of tier points.

OW airlines usually do not do status match from another OW airline.
However, some *A and ST airlines match the equivalent tier from OW airlines.

CX seems to be an outlier. A couple of years ago I tried to match BA OWE (BA Gold) to CX. CX was willing to match OWS. But it is a case by case decision. You must have flown a lot of CX flights in the past and some future CX bookings. In the end, I decided to decline.

I've been told that the lounge attendants can amend the FFP on your ticket before boarding, so whatever miles will be credited to the last minute change. If you can share your experience after that would be great.

Brunos, how were you able to reach someone to discuss the status match?

I am Oneworld Emerald for 10+ years as well as lifetime Oneworld Sapphire. Status with Qantas. I fly Cathay every week. My total spend is around US$100,000/year. Probably half of that on Cathay. I also hold Star Alliance Gold and Skyteam Elite Plus status.

I would be content if they matched me across to Cathay Gold, but I don't want to start from scratch. And it seems there is no way to actually contact someone at Cathay to make this application.

Just curious if anyone knows whether changing FFP in lounge affect chances of op-up at gate?

If I remember correctly, this is after I wrote a complaint about a very long delay and various problems with the flight.
I got called by an agent who proposed a status match during the conversation..

Just do it in T-40. Most op-ups should be done by T-50, sometimes even T-90 when the flight is oversold by a mile.

You can try [email protected] (They usually forward emails to relevant departments)

For 50K USD per year on CX metal, I'd move over asap. You should be close to DM Plus.

Very confident you will get at least Gold. If someone tells you no, try again. I've seen multiple associates get Gold doing what you're doing (legit spend/travel patterns, esp on CX).

I've also seen them give out DM directly, although it was a massive pain in the butt for the (deserving) customer and maybe not worth the hassle.

GO should be good enough as a launching pad and you'll be DM soon enough anyway.

Yes. I don't know where the cutoff is these days, it always varies and I was told it isn't entirely black and white. But clearly the poster above would be a valuable customer for CX to have as their own frequent flyer.

10 HK-Europe flights in J get you over the line, around 500K HKD (I guess). Well, it's none of my business since I am nowhere near that number, have no desire to spend that much, and would benefit little from the additional benefits.
