Transit through HKG.

Hello Cathay Pacific people. I have a flight coming up LHR-HKG-SYD on Cathay in premium economy.
I have only ever flown in or out of HKG as cabin crew for BA, so no experience of transferring through. I will be a BA silver cardholder by the time I travel to SYD so I believe I can use the CX lounge at HKG if there is enough time.
Im looking for any tips or suggestions, experience of travelling through HKG.
Many thanks.

Hi Flygirl,
hong kong is one of the easiest airports to transfer out of. From the plane to the lounge shouldnt take you more than 20 mins thats including security. There are 2 cathay lounges that you can use as well as the qantas and ba lounge in hong kong. I prefer the cathay lounges. Lot of food options in the cathay lounge. If your stopover is 4-5 hours you can take the airport express to kowloon which is 22 mins on the dot and the frequencies are 5-7 min. There are plenty of shopping options at the airport as well if you dont want to nip into town. Hope this helps. safe travels!

Thank you so much, great information, and extra! I meant to ask about the different lounges so an extra thank you for that. I will only have a couple of hours at most. Im a very good traveller but I like to get the lowdown to save time.
Thank you appreciate that.

I am a fan of the CX lounges but recently I flew JL which suggested I use the new QF lounge near the JL flight's departure gate. I really liked it, it's nice and spacious and they even have a dimsum cart passing by.

I assumed that a CX lounge might be best time wise, but Ill have to have a look at a map and see where the QF and BA ones are. I know I can try them all at LHR too, which I will have loads of time for.
i dont want to consume tons of food and drink, Im just very nosey 🤭.

If you can get into First Class lounges, Cathay lounges win by a mile. But for the Business Class lounges, I actually think the Qantas lounge is the best. Has the best food by far and the nicest ambiance.

You will need to go through transfer security to move from arrival level to departure level. There a re a couple of such transit points.
Then, check the gate where your flight departs and go to a lounge near your transit point or near your departing gate.
There are three CX business class lounges (Wing, Pier, Deck) and the QF lounge (near Deck). There is no BA lounge.
All lounges are nice. If convenient QF lounge maybe the nicest.business lounge. But service depends on the time of the day. If near a QF departing flight, they will actively serve all kinds of food, including on trolleys and a la carte. Service is lesser outside of QF flights hours.

I reckon the choice for lounging is between the Qantas Lounge and Cathay's The Pier Business. They're at either ends of HKG: Qantas at the 'top' (near gates 5-6) and The Pier around gate 65. Both lounges are quite different and both have a lot going for them, although the best Qantas lounge food rolls out in the late arvo ahead of the QF flights. I really like The Pier for its noodle bar and tea room. If you have a short transit then which lounge you visit will really depend mainly on which end of the airport your HKG-SYD flight departs from.

I believe JL has an agreement with the now reopened QF lounge. Like David mentioned, sit down dining operate according for QF departures. If youve never been to a QF lounge before, their cheesecake fantastic!

When I was at QF Lounge last week (August 21), the staff said dimsum and buffet was available morning onwards but plated menu offerings starts at 4:00pm to time with Qantas flights.
