(I think part of your question might be, "is there any risk that CX changes its mind operationally and doesn't send to LHR as is currently on the schedule", to this I think the answer is "low risk".) Nothing you can really do about this since it's such a small subfleet right now.

As to what plane they'd sub, I'm not as familiar with LHR patterns, but the "old 777 business class" is hardly bad. It's quite similar to the A350 business class. And some of us would argue at least in the case of some seats, the 777 is better than the A350. It's definitely not like some massive downgrade or something the 77W J vs. A359/351 J IMO. Especially since all the birds have WiFi now (and 77Ws overall have faster WiFi than the A350s).

The old 777 Business class is 15 years old, which is launched in 2011, it includes a 15.4 inch 1280x800 98.02 PPI touchscreen display which is the lowest pixel density PTV on the entire Cathay Pacific fleet as of today, if you want to turn it into a flat bed, you have to press and hold the buttons for at least 15 seconds, the seat recieved a very little In-flight entertainment system GUI refreshes on 2012 and 2017 respectively, the old 777 business class seats are originally paired with the 2007-2021 non-reclining hard shell economy class seats when B-KPU/V/W/X are newly delivered, B-KPV has the oldest seats, whereas the B-HNR has the newest seats. B-KQW has the newest first class seats which is manufactured in 2015.

Thanks. The old 777 business class is dreadful compared to the A350 Aria first generation product I experienced to AKL from HKG! So just want to avoid that.

By A350, I assume you are referring to the FB2. The 350s do not have Aria.

The old 777 business class is turning 14 year old this year, the IFE system itself is not compatible with the new "Netflix"-ifed IFE UX due to the slow and outdated IFE hardware, it is based on the Safran Cirrus II platform.

Is the shoulder belt required to be fastened at certain times of the flight?

Takeoff and landing only IME

This has probably been answered (but without reading back through the entire thread):

Looking at the seating chart, how do you tell the if a particular flight has the new J class?

77J doesn’t have 18A, only D/G/K.

The easiest way is 6 rows of PEY.

Yep, I have found this is the quickest indicator.

Is this strictly enforced?

Similar to any other seatbelt requirement.

They don't have like extra shoulder strap FA police or lights/sirens that go off if you undo it;)

While not everybody is sold on the new Aria Suite itself, I'd think most will agree with these awards for the IFE system's features and UX.

Wednesday, February 12, 2025 Cathay Pacific is delighted to share that its inflight entertainment (IFE) system has received accolades from two of the world’s most prestigious design awards, the German Design Award 2025 and the Red Dot Award 2024, reaffirming its excellence in customer experience and design, and its commitment to becoming the world’s best premium airline.
Cathay Pacific has been named a Gold winner in the “Excellent Communications Design – Interactive User Experience” category of the German Design Award and a winner of the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design – User Interface Design.
Cathay General Manager Customer Experience and Design Vivian Lo said: “We are incredibly honoured and humbled to be presented with two of the most internationally acclaimed awards in the Design arena, which serve as a further acknowledgement of our steadfast commitment to delivering world-class experiences to our customers. At the core of our IFE that we developed together with Reaktor is a thoughtful, human-centric design, underpinned by innovation, customer comfort and an intuitive graphical user interface. With these recognitions, we hope to continue to lead the charge for the industry and beyond as we strive to push the envelope of customer experience, ensuring that every facet of the journey is genuinely cared for.”

I havn't been on Aria but I actually find the IFE to be a bit dizzing. The UX is nice but IMO, they have done too good of a job on the volume of content to the point I feel like it takes me forever to scroll through all of it and find something I actually want to watch (which is rare for some reason given the amount of content there is).
