David - it is 90% a quote but it came from an involved source that i would be reluctant to post. The 'confirmed' is not my addition.
Is it correct ?- clearly I believe so due to the source. But 'fact' is of course another matter I suppose it could be something of a FrankenSeat (FrankenSuite?) where the AirTek principles have been used by Collins to create a seat which meets the CX criteria, and those criteria shaped along the same lines of Elements (which of course makes life easier for Collins).... we shall see!! |
From _The design Air'
Though the airline has not yet divulged further specifics, Johnny Clark, the eagled-eyed editor of The Design Air, reckons that this doored herringbone “is most certainly the JPA Design and Williams Advanced Engineering ‘AirTek’ seat”. To say there are strong similarities between the seat shown in Cathay’s video and AirTek is perhaps an understatement. And JPA Design admits on its website that it’s working with Cathay “to design and develop their next generation of aircraft cabin interiors”, though the design house calls the project “confidential”. We’ve covered AirTek extensively in the past. The lightweight seat features a monocoque design that provides storage for a sizeable carryon below the seat, rather like a recliner. But with an increased use of composites, AirTek also comes with some certification challenges. |

But with an increased use of composites, AirTek also comes with some certification challenges. Interestingly, this same article says: "During last year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, published a rather cryptic post on LinkedIn, announcing an expansion to its “long-term partnership with Cathay Pacific Airways” and promising to share more details in a future press release. “Thanks again to Cathay Pacific for embarking on this new commitment with us and helping us to redefine aerospace,” stated the Collins Aerospace account, ending with the hashtag #OneInteriors." Given the Collins hint, if this seat is JPA's AirTek then the notion that it is a collaboration between JPA and Collins – AirTek design and tech, but manufactured by Collins and adapted to the more familiar feature-set and indeed look of the Collins Elements – would stand up. |
As you say David time will tell.
I have exhausted both my thoughts and information and don't want to become a bore on the subject though I suspect that your previous post re a composite design is probably correct. |

Thinking about bringing my parents from the US to HKG on Aria J in 4Q 2024, and would prefer to book and pay sooner than later so that I can lock down the rest of their trip. I know there isn't much public information yet, but is there any speculation on which routes would feature Aria first? I know SFO-HKG uses the A350, so unless there is a swap to the 777, it probably won't be that route.

I have just booked HKG-MXP / LHR-HKG in July, and the flight has changed from 359 to 77X - looks promising that it may be the new Aria suites! But i do agree than most of the new product will be serving LHR. Fingers crossed!

New 77W cabins
Apologies if this has already been mentioned here or elsewhere, but in addition to the new Aria suite and premium economy product rollout on 777-300ERs, CX will also be giving its economy class a refresh. Highlights include:

4 class fleet registrations

t is now confirmed that the ‘Area’ seat is based on a totally new seat design and is the launch of JPAs new concept seat that has been featured, engineered and refined for Cathay Pacific.
What it is not is an update of any existing seat platform. “Project AIRTEK is a JPA Design collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering and SWS Aircraft Certification to create the future of lightweight and sustainable cabin structures. The partnership, which is funded by the UK Governments’ Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), brings together world class experts in design, engineering, manufacturing, material sciences and aviation certification”. Cathay has also developed a new first class seat named “Halo Suite”. Initially designed for the Boeing 777-9 however I feel that it is likely to also to be added to some of the airlines newer 4 class 777 300s. |

if you are wondering what the 4 class B777-367/ER fleet registrations you are likely to find them either upper B-KPx registrations or selected B-KQx registrations

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but what is the plan with the rest of the fleet? Will the long haul (e.g. the 350's) eventually be brought up to the 77W standard? Or will they operate 3 different versions of the cabin (77W only, long haul, regional)?

-I believe it is that 77Ws are to be all renovated with Aria suites, 3 class config. 30 of these will stick around, while the 8 other should return to lessors.
-17 777-300s to be retired soon. I think one of them already is retired after that clash in CTS B-HNW. -2 a359s should return to lessors by 2028 -a group of incoming a321neos (some to HKE), whereas a320neos should be all going to HKE. -777-9 intro in 2025 Q3-Q4 -a350F intro in 2028 -4 leased a330-300s return to lessor by 2027, while retirement of a couple that are really old...? Speculation. -I also believe that there still are KA a330s (6 of them) and a couple a320ceos and a321ceos. They will probably also return to HKE and CX respectively. |

Cathay will remove first class on Aria equipped 777s on 2024 because the Aria Suites is more like first class than business.
