yikes, 160k in F for ultra long haul is pretty gross. Biz in long didn't get hit *too* hard

They have guts to put this in faq
8. Previously I could redeem a flight award at a lower cost. Are you devaluing Asia Miles?

This is hilarious:

FAQ
5. Why are you increasing the price of redemption tickets?
8. Previously I could redeem a flight award at a lower cost. Are you devaluing Asia Miles?

Their "answer" is a pure insult.
"We are confident that the changes will deliver more value to our members. This will ensure that we are able to provide more redemption options to our members, so they can redeem their seats on their preferred flights."

Fitting that I am reading this news on a CX J flight booked with CX miles (flight is delayed btw), which is ofc going up in cost.

I wonder why Indonesia, India, Nepal and Japan were singled out in the 2.75k zone. Now Bali/Jakarta will be 32k J instead of 25k. Maybe Bali and Tokyo are too popular. I wonder how things will price for flights to one of those countries not originating in HK; my guess is same higher zone.

Why not set it to absurd price so that 'our members can redeem their seats on their preferred flights?'

I assume the only reason they made a couple of the economy redemptions slightly cheaper is so they could say in the email "This revision will include increases and decreases in the miles required to redeem flights with Cathay Pacific and our partner airlines. " - right, yes, very balanced revisions...

It gets worse. The new companion fares in J Class are slightly less than the current redemption cost. For example, right now a roundtrip ticket to Dubai on J would be 90K miles. Reach October 1 and the companion fare on the same route in J is 87K miles. Its beyond ridiculous that they're doing this.

I think those economy redemption brackets are the least used ones as well.

Oneworld multi-city redemption table also increased

Before mid-2010s: one-way ultra longhaul Y+ to J upgrade: 27500 miles, round trip upgrade: 45000 miles
After mid-2010s: one-way ultra longhaul Y+ to J upgrade: 35,000 miles, round trip upgrade: 70000 miles
From Oct 2023: one-way ultra longhaul Y+ to J upgrade: 55,000 miles, round trip upgrade: 110,000 miles

In short, the mileage required for upgrades to J has more than doubled compared to 7-8 years ago. Very disappointing. Unless you have a credit card with points that could be converted to Asia Miles you will really struggle to have sufficient miles for upgrades.

So CX gave 10% bonus for converting credit card miles up to 30 June. Then devalue from 1 October.

The same hand that giveth also taketh.

You already can today. Isn’t that what cash + miles is for? ;)
