"Redemption class Y is not valid on this flight date" error

Hi,

Trying to book a mixed class ticket with Asia Miles. BNE - HKG in J and then HKG - LHR in F on 26/1/24.

There is availability for both flights (confirmed on Qantas FF website) and the website tells me it's 108,200 miles.

I can select both flights in the multi city tool but when I go through to confirm it comes up with this error. Have others got this before?

Does that mean I can't book these two flights together?

Isn't "redemption class Y" an economy ticket? Is it worth trying with the contact centre?

When I try booking without the multi city tool I only get J class availability - even when I select First when searching.

I had a similar problem for 1 Oct last month

1. Are sectors also available on Cathay individually?

2. If (1) if yes, any luck with calling?

(me: no on both counts)

1. Both sectors were available individually, which is why the frustration with this booking error. If there was simply no award space that would be fine.

2. Used the Whatsapp - seemed to be quite helpful. The actual date I want to fly is in mid Feb (this was a test run) so I didn't go through with the booking, but the agent confirmed this ticket was valid, should be bookable and it was likely a website error. 108,400 miles which is a steal for a one way to LHR with the long leg in F! Will try for the date I actually want towards the end of next week.

I had the same error when trying to book a multi-city itinerary (A-HKG-B) with both sectors in J and a long overnight transit.

Both sectors were available when searched individually, transit in HKG <24 hrs, but the full itinerary doesnt show up when searching one-way from A to B. It only showed options with shorter transit time.

Called in and CSO was able to price out my itinerary, but charged a 40USD extra handling fee. I asked him to waive the handling fee because itinerary couldnt be completed online due to this Class Y error, he initially said no, though he escalated to supervisor and they managed to waive it. My booking is now completed. (yay)

OP you might want to call in, but be prepared for extremely long wait times. Good luck!

USD 40 extra handling fee for a new redemption (rather than for rebooking/reissuing an existing redemption)?

Yes CSO mentioned its because I called in to make a new booking instead of doing it online.

But since the booking couldnt be done on their website due to the Class Y error, they agreed to waive the fee.

Thanks for the data point! I'll try on the Whatsapp when my date becomes available. Whoever I was talking to was ready to book it, I just had to back out of that date.
