LATAM availability with CX post One World Exit?
Hello everyone,
As you guys know with LATAM leaving One World, booking LATAM with points has become exceedingly difficult as we were discussing in this thread over on the Delta Lounge. American Airlines is 100% out, BAEC is defacto out with virtually zero availability, and Delta also has extremely limited LATAM availability especially in J (though many speculate this may change soon).
As an American living in Mexico City, being able to book LATAM with points is very important to me. Recently I stumbled upon the fact that Asia Miles has retained its partnership LATAM, and you can still use Asia Miles to book LATAM. This is a big deal being that they transfer in from Amex, Cap One, Citi, basically all the major players except Chase.
I was even more surprised to see that LATAM is one of the few airlines that (ostensibly) shows availability on Cathay's site without calling. The "Standard" award pricing is very attractive too, 30k miles for a 5-6 hour flight in J is solid. However, it's basically same old story playing around with many different routes, I could never get anything to populate on the system. Only sometimes it would show a route with LATAM but always saying "flight fully booked" even pushing way out into July or August 2021.
Is there some trick here I don't know about? Do you have to call in to see all availability or is it what you see is what you get?
I can't imagine LATAM is a popular transfer partner for Asia Miles but figured at least some ppl in the Cathay thread might have some experience booking LATAM.
Maybe i'm trying to hack something unhackable and occams razor here applies. Maybe LATAM has simply decided to not release any award space to any partners for 2021?
Thanks in advance for the help everyone!
