I don't think there is much 'labour relationship' left in CX, both pilots and crew have been at loggerheads for years.
If they go down the route of fire and rehire, it will make BA look angelic in comparison !!
Labour relationship will be "destroyed" at every surviving airline.

In the recent times when pilots were a scarce ressource dictating their terms, relations were not good.
In the current times when there is a vast oversupply of pilots, relations will not be good either.

People who took advantage of the supply vs demand should not cry when it is used against them.

Pilots haven't been dictating terms at Cathay for almost 2 decades. The salaries and benefits have continued to fall since early 2000's. CX likes to pretend the pilots are the issue. Swire management have continually strove to reduce the pilot terms (and all staff for that matter). The quality of pilots that have been hired over the last 6 years has been reduced by a great factor. Experienced pilots leave CX/KA to earn money elsewhere. It is not the dream job anymore.

Indeed. Airlines are big proponents of capitalism, right up until the moment they need either a government bailout or other form of assistance!

Interestingly, HK Express will take the subsidy. That means UO staffing levels wont be cut for the time being. Probably offers some insight into the thinking at Cathay City.

A two-month wage subsidy makes sense if the problems are temporary.
But we know that CX is faced with a huge reduction in demand for years to come. Further postponing necessary drastic cost cutting makes no sense. IAnd there are other costs that can be cut besides wages if headcount is reduced. If some significant bailout money was offered in addition to wage subsidy, CX might have considered it, but that is not what the HK Government is willing to do.

SIA is in a somewhat similar situation as it has no domestic network. But it has the Singapore government backing. Still, job cuts have started to be announced.

Such a crisis without lay-off? You gotta be kidding me.

I am surprised that the airline did not take the opportunity to rewrite pilot contracts.

most likely just to delay for another 3 months. First cut CX/KX staff first.

Maybe this is a good opportunity to cut back-office jobs in HK Express and Cathay City will take over these function. May need more time to figure out the plan lol

Well...when CX started closing outports, it was a big hint that CX will put HKG personnel on the chopping board.

It is only a matter of when.

Those cabin crew bases were closed months ago, the only cabin crew bases that remain outside of Hong Kong are London, Bangkok and Singapore. Likely that they will be closed or see significant reductions, I believe the British Government are Supporting jobs through a scheme until November 1st so that base won't be reduced until then at the earliest if it were to happen. Anyone's guess what happens next...
