Status Match

Hi guys,

I'm not sure where to post this but thought I'd give it a go over here.

I am currently a BAEC Silver (oneworld Sapphire) and have been for the last 4 years. Most of my travels to Asia are predominantly on CX and the occassional QR and QF and 3K. Most of my TATL flights are on AA (outbound) and BA (inbound)

Next year, most of my flights will be on CX flying in PEY and J. My mum, dad and brother are all CX MPC Gold Members. I have emailed the MPC Customer Service Centre and asked for a status match.

If they agreed, will I lose my current BAEC status and be on whatever CX offers me or will I have status on both airlines?

Thanks for the advices guys!

The programs operate independently so your BA membership would be unaffected. If you get a match, it is most likely to CX Silver, not Gold.

Do you have any particular reason why you want to change programs?

I’m sure Mwenenzi will be along soon to remind you that the grass is not always greener unless you have specific reasons to change program.

Not that they are likely to but if they did I've never heard of any airline wanting to, or being able to, yank status from the matched from their original airline. How would they do that?

What would the benefit be of having a second OW membership especially the convoluted MPC unless you are 100% sure of Gold or Diamond status on them?

When I moved from the UK, Cathay matched my BAEC Gold to CX Gold (i.e. equivalent of BA silver). However, I decided to continue crediting to BA as it was easier to maintain my BAEC Gold than qualify for CX Diamond, even with the majority of my flights on CX/KA. Have a look at the calculator on the MPC website to see the earning rates and you can calculate whether it is worth it...

I reckon they would match you to CX Silver (equivalent of BA Bronze) so probably no point unless you are going to be with CX for the long haul....

PS you don't lose your matched status!

Can't imagine why you they would. If I recall, CX MPC seemed pretty generous on matches, assuming you have at least flown with them and have some future flights scheduled. I just wrote them out of the blue and relayed how much I liked their outfit and if they'd consider giving me a match. Shortly after, I received an email offering Silver immediately upon the completion of my next CX flight.

PS - sorry, typed the wrong word, and meant to say, "can't imagine why they," as in BAEC would rescind your status.

It was just out of curiosity really. I am happy with my BA Status- have moved from AF-KL Flying Blue to BAEC because I foung Flying Blue to be complicated (in my opinion) and also the fact that AF was having lots of air traffic strikes and found their customer services to be unhelpful. And it's also due to the fact that all my family are CX MPC Golds- my mum getting Diamond next month. They also told me that CX MPC has upgrades(similar to AA I think?).

The North American upgrade list can't really be found anywhere else (I'm assuming you're talking about that) and CX doesn't have that. However, they do have systemwide upgrades for select members (can't remember who). They also often op-up people at the gate or at check-in for MPC pax if the flight is full, like what Emirates does for their Skywards pax.
