I just took CX881 LAX-HKG in J. Upon boarding, I asked if they could serve my meal about six hours into the flight, as I just had a good dinner in the QF First Class lounge. The cc serving my aisle was very accommodating, telling me that I shall just inform them after I wake up and that it takes 20 min for them to heat up the meal. I then just collapsed after takeoff. After six hours of sleep, I came to the galley and ask if they could heat up my meals. They agreed, and quickly brought my meal. The only downside is the lack of appetizers, but I got my main course (pre-ordered) and the fruit/dessert. I don't know if my DM status helped with this arrangement.

Agree about the breakfast service starting too early.. but I guess when you need to serve 50+ passengers, if they try to serve it all 1 hour before landing, it might be a bit too chaotic especially when the aircraft starts to descend and passengers also rushing to go to bathroom, etc..

There is no starter on supper service. There is one Chinese dish that comes with Chinese soup, and there is one Western dish that comes with a basic green salad, but no appetizer is offered. Honestly most CX F/As don't mind saving your supper to serve you later in flight. They just need to know before you fall asleep, as dishes cannot be reheated again. Once they were warmed, they had to be consumed or would be disposed.

Especially they have not restored the galley F/A that they eliminated during Covid. However, I still think breakfast can still be done easily 90 minutes prior to arrival, and there are still ample times for passengers to use the lavatory. 60 minutes may be on the rush side, but 90 minutes sound pretty reasonable especially it is no longer a three course meal, which most people here dislike. [I personally prefer the old service but guess the new generation of premium passengers demand a simple service.]

On my last daytime flight from SFO to HKG, they began breakfast service by coming around with linen at 00:55am SFO local time, and then my breakfast tray was handed to me at 1:18am (I was at 21A - last row of J in A350-900 and J was full), and then everything was clear (my tray was collected) at 1:35am. Then lights were turned off again. We did not land until 3:28am SFO (6:28pm HK local time). The newly trained Thai F/A even prepared the cabin for landing before the pilot turned on the seat belt sign. Then of course we were slowed down by ATC control.

CX315 to MAD, OWE in J, SP when giving the greeting asked if I ate well in the F lounge and said I can have my preorder baked crab shell anytime...had it at 3am local 9pm Spain time... breakfast asked for 730am Spain time 1330 HK time...
