Question Infant on Redemption ticket

Getting quite confused with this and can't seem to find a straight answer online.

Looking to redeem some miles and want the kids (under 2) to also travel. Can't seem to redeem miles online for the children and according to the CX website I'm told to call Asia Miles.

So I call MPC and AM and get two different responses:

1. MPC says I have to purchase a full redemption ticket for the infant. They say that while it will be a lap infant you will have also purchased a seat for the infant as well.
2. AM says I make the redemption and then call reservations to add an infant on the ticket and pay the additional fees (infant ticket price and taxes, etc) but they don't know the cost.

Looking for some clarification on the procedure. I think 2 is right, but can someone confirm?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, both are correct- probably the MPC agent missed some context.
if youre looking to redeem miles for the infant, #1- full miles, with seat, subject to availability.
if youre looking to get an infant revenue ticket attached to the adults redemption, #2. Book the adults redemption ticket, then reservations should be able to book the infant in the lowest available revenue fareclass, for the appropriate fare (typically, 10%).

Both are right.

if you want to redeem ticket for your infant, you need pay full adult miles.

on the other hand, you can buy a lap-infant revenue ticket, which is what is suggested by Asia Miles.

I would first ascertain the cash price of the infant tickets (should be 10% of the best fare currently available in the cabin in which you are ticketed). Once you know that, you can make a good decision as to miles vs. cash.

I believed it is 10% of the full fare of that particular cabin.

Think it depends on the market/fare rules- lowest available should be possible for most. Ive ticketed infants in A class rather than F.

FYI it's actually the same call centre.
