KA "glitch" email
So I check in for my flight to Shanghai (ex HKG) and settle into the Wing. Ping! Email arrives telling me that my "seat has changed to 15D" (which is BUsiness, I was booked in Economy). Nice, I think, another upgrade. Not unusual for a Diamond member, but always appreciated. So I don't eat anything in the Wing and head off to the gate where..... no seat change.
This REALLY upset me.
Much more than it would have if they had not sent that damn email!
So at the gate they said "don't know why they sent the email, must be just a glitch". And that was that. No apologies or anything.
I realise I have no right to a free upgrade, but being effectively given one and then having it taken away again is, frankly, cruel! Plus I would have eaten a meal in the Wing had I thought I was still in Economy!
Has this happened to anyone else?

I once got a text that I had been moved into the J cabin but I suspected and it turned out to be that I was served only with Y food and I was the only one in the aft J cabin.
Refresh your mobile boarding pass to know for sure where you will sit. If you've been upgraded it will reflect after refreshing.

I always check my online boarding pass before leaving the lounge (or sometimes just when I'm in the lounge), and, if I'm lucky to receive an upgrade, I go to the lounge receptionist and ask them to give me a new boarding pass. Sometimes, I will also ask for another seat instead of the one I was given. Not sure if it actually matters or not, but I always feel that if I actually got a new boarding pass, then they are less likely to put me back to Y.

Never got an email, but on a flight from PEK-HKG-LHR I encountered bad service, coupled with a delay, meaning I miss my connection, and an extremely awkward seat mate. After much talking to the ISM half way to HK, they eventually got back to me and said I was rebooked successfully onto the next LHR flight, and that I was also being upgraded to J (even gave me the seat number). Needless to say when I got the new boarding pass there was no mention of J anywhere on it.

Perhaps the fact that I'm not super into Chinese food plays a role in my calculus, but many of the outstations I fly to/from DO NOT have better options than CX/KA food.
