Question on Asia Miles Transfer fee

What is considered the first 10000 miles for mile transfer within our redemption group. My wife has 55000 miles in her account and she will need another 15k to get an award ticket. Both of our kids have about 40k in their account. Can I do a 10k transfer from kid A and wait another week to transfer another 10k? Or do I need to transfer 10k from each of our children's account? The 5k for USD120 is really steep...

Are you thinking that there is a "free transfer" of the first 10,000 miles?

I do not believe that is the case. For transfers done online, the first 10,000 miles is USD 170, with additional black of 5,000 miles at USD 140. See here: https://www.asiamiles.com/en/terms-a...s-renewal.html.

I am aware of the $170 fee for the first 10k. My question is how does the second block transfer fee kick in? Let's say if I transfer 10k from account A to B today for $170. Will I be able to do it again 1 week later from A->B for $170/10k or will I be charged USD280 now for 10k?

I believe it is per transfer.

I don't believe there is a limit (at least one that does not apply to you) for transfer.

But again - transferring is a stupid move, as it does nothing other than getting your money.

Can't you book 2 one-way instead?

The 15k needed is for a one way J redemption.

Since she has 70% of the miles you can do a top up @60USD per 2000 miles. I would probably prefer to do that.

How come? It will come out to be $480 in order to get 16k miles. I am actually thinking of just doing $170+$140=$310 for the 15k miles needed. We are planning to move over to SQ from CX and is trying to burn through whatever remaining miles as much as possible. Otherwise I would have transferred points over from the CC.

You can get the {170 USD for 10k miles} rate as many times as you want by doing it in a separate transaction each time. As far as I can tell from poking around, you don't even have to wait any amount of time between transactions (the only concern might be your credit card getting flagged for too many transactions in a short amount of time, if you went overboard with it).

This makes me wonder what the point of the additional {140 USD for 5k miles} rate is; I can see maybe (1) cleaning out an account with between 5000 and 9999 miles, or (2) CX getting more $ out of someone who didn't bother to ask for clarification on FT like llngoc did... but this seems a bit scummy.

Regardless, as garykung implied, the fact that you can do this still doesn't mean it's a good deal.

Thanks for your informative reply. I may actually do the 10k+5k transfer and save the USD30 for now as I only need 15k miles. As I mentioned, we are trying to clear out the Asia Mile accounts in the family (four of us) and move to SQ for future flights.

Thanks for all of your help. Instead of paying USD310 for miles transfer and another USD200 to use the 70k miles to book the J one way on CX to HKG. I will just use 270k miles and USD65 to book a RT F on SQ. This will use an extra 90k miles but it is less cash outlay and all the way in F.

I am thoroughly confused now: How are you going to use AsiaMiles to pay for an SQ redemption?

Or do you mean that you will park your Asiamiles for now and use those in the future, and use Krisflyer miles to book your SQ F award on this occasion?

OP wants to clear out AM and move on to a new program (SQ).

I have AM miles spread among the four of us in the family. And I also have points from credit cards which can be used
on both CX and SQ. Sorry for the confusion.
