Question Getting F class seat when selling as J on CX/KA

Hi all,

First world problem here!

Will be heading down to KUL next week on KA in J and my flight so happens to be a 33R (A330-300 with First class). I can see rows 1 and 2 selling as J but all seats are currently blocked.

I gave MPC a call but it seems like they are unable to put me in those two rows (or in any seat in J for that matter since I'm holding a MH issued ticket).

What should I do in a situation like this - should I: 1) give MPC another call at T-48 and try my luck, or 2) head to the airport super early and hope those eight seats are still up for grabs?

Many thanks in advance!!

Option 2 would be the best option at this point.

Thanks for the swift response - don't expect KUL to be as elite heavy as, say PEK/PVG?

I don't think it would be that challenging TBH.

Thanks for the responses.

Would I have to ask for the F seats to be unblocked at the counter, or would they automatically be at T-48?

Thanks all for your input. Been trying to snatch the F seats through MPC and CX reservation but they don't seem to be able to unblock the seats since I'm on a MH ticket.

Any other way I can try or would I have to settle on heading to the airport earlier that day?

Many thanks

You have a chance when OLCI opens. Then the seating comes under airport control, a different system. If they need to open the F section (might not if light load in J), you might have access to those seats as MPC Gold. They might reserve them for DM or OWE.
As a lowly MPC Gold and a MH ticket, I wonder if they will make an effort at the airport.

OLCI opens at T-48 hours. I don't think seating is under airport control yet.

Quick update - 7 out of 8 seats already taken up, and even the staff at HK station aren't able to get the seat for me.

Tough luck that my flight is so DM heavy I guess!

You are right that "airport control" might be a misnomer.
But I have seen J seats open to OWE/DM at OLCI on KA where the flight was sold as one-class and the ac had business seats (used to fly DAD a lot before they used a 2-class ac on the route).
I guess that the OLCI system is different from the seat-assignment system before T-48.
Clearly airport has the ability to unblock seats which are still blocked at OLCI.

I think they are different, but seat assignments are blocked at T-55 IIRC. When I was a DM, they assigned me a J seat on a flight (I bought a Y ticket and was originally assigned a Y aisle seat) two weeks before departure. The J cabin was divided into two sessions. The last three rows in the J cabin were Y. I was surprised I got assigned that early.

Managed to snatch a F class seat from Hong Kong station today (day of my flight). I can confirm that the airport control system is different from OLCI, and the in town check in staff would have to phone up someone in CLK to have the seat released.
