Hold booking button disappeared
The Hold Booking function has disappeared from my screen. I have used this function several times but it seems to have been disabled. Talking to the Marco Polo club was no help . Anyone else experienced this issue ?

Btw I have been a gold member for the past 6 years and have always done my bookings online so I’m very familiar with the reservation system.

I tried to make a dummy booking without FFP (HKG-TYO r/t) and could see the hold booking button right next to "pay now" at the final stage. With CXGO you should now be able to hold 72hrs for free if you are one of the travellers.

It would be helpful if the OP could provide more details. Might be able to get to the root cause better.
Similar to watery I had no recent problems. We actually made a (somewhat) complicated itinerary for me and Mrs. Qrc two days ago involving 4 sectors to, around and back from Canada and the USA. Needed a day to sort out with the folks we're seeing if everything was okay. Put on hold online like the OP is trying, worked without a hitch. J class, cash tickets, a few months away. Paid and ticketed it this morning. My colleague who ticketed it said took longer than normal, something about they had to "remake" the booking. But besides the extra hold time (~5 minutes max) worked. |
Are you booking less than 7 days before departure? If so, then immediate ticketing is needed.https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...g-on-hold.html

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago, and I'm CXGO as well.
I didn't call CX but I suspect it's because it's too close to departure time. |
I think for promotional fares that function is disabled.
|
you can only hold the booking if it's more than 7 days before departure.
|
I found that some flights originating from HKG but going to Canada also doesn't have the Hold for 3 Days feature. Based on CX's policies I thought it was flights originating from Canada that won't have this function.

I have a related question that I've meant to ask, having only used the "hold booking" button once and that was some time ago.
Does it also hold the actual fare that the website quotes? Or when I come back in 24-72 hours and, for example, the I class fare has run out of seats, will my booking still be there only at a more expensive fare? |

When "Hold Your Fare" is selected, the flight fare will be fixed for the Holding Period, however, taxes, fees, and carrier surcharges are subject to change. Sidenote: just tried to make a dummy booking with GR status for a Q fare, noticed that seat is no longer pre-assigned when on hold. Tried holding Q-fare pre-change (i.e. when everyone gets 24hr) and seat was assigned (according to profile preference) right from on hold. Not going to pay to check further ;) |
[QUOTE=CXFlyerBoy;29440848]Are you booking less than 7 days before departure? If so, then immediate ticketing is needed. I am wondering if it’s because I have used the hold too many times . I have held bookings abt 6 times in a row without finalizing them as I was waiting for a redemption flight to come through (which never did). It doesn’t appear to be time related as I tried holding a Booking for April , which I managed to hold 2weeks ago, and again no hold button in the payment page . I finally did a paid flight to see if it reset whatever should have been reset, but still no hold button. Maybe I’m being punished for using the hold too many times ? |
[QUOTE=watery;29446052]Per T&C #4 : It's called "Hold Your Fare" for a reason . Might want to check that. Previously when I used to make reservations via MPC, they held the fares. Since the changes, they now tell me that they will hold the Booking but the fare is subject to change during the hold period . Note it is titled Hold Booking , not Hold Fare. |
To know if it's your account or not, try booking without first logged in (or logout), may even use browser private mode/switch computer to be accurate, because the option should regardless appear to non-MPC just having a fee.
Also, what the site I quoted is for online booking and not via MPC hotline. Haven't booked by other means yet. I believe the MPC "hold" works differently from online booking "hold". |
Yes that was indeed my concern - although it's been a while since I've done it because I wasn't sure of exactly what I was "holding". I made a booking, held it and when I went back to buy it, it had gone up by what seemed more than just a change in taxes or additional charges. It's quite possible that they did indeed change but I recall it being a larger than expected amount so I was curious whether perhaps the fare had changed as well in the intervening period.
Now I don't hold things, when I find the fares I want I buy the ticket and if the website crashes when I try and pay for it (which it frequently does) I print it out and email it to the MPC who ticket it at the price quoted on the website. |
